Neo's POV

I woke up with a start. I began chanting the same thing I had been chanting since I had found out Iris was a mermaid. My name is Neo, I am 17. My best friend is a mermaid. My life is nowhere near normal. I chanted. The memory of when I met Iris came flooding back.

I walked into the classroom for the first time, I looked around thinking I was the only one in the room, then I saw her. She was gorgeous, with big blue eyes and short white blond hair. I caught her eye for a few moments before she looked back at the book she was reading.

"Hi." I said walking up to her.

"Hey." She whispered.

"I'm Neo, what's your name?" I asked.

"Iris." She replied. We continued talking until class started and one thing was for certain, I would be friends with Iris.

I smiled at the memory, I honestly missed her. I missed her smile and her laugh. I missed the way she knew I was behind her trying to scare her. I got up and pulled some clothes on and ate breakfast, Iris still not far from my mind. I pulled on my shoes and began walking away from my house, I didn't know where I was going, but I didn't care. Before I knew it I was at the beach, right where I found out Iris was a mermaid. Then I saw her, she was hard to miss, she was talking with someone. Someone with a tail, I gasped, and Iris whipped her head around her face full of fear. She relaxed when she saw me.

"It's okay," she said to me and the other mermaid.

"There are more of you?" I asked.

"I didn't know until today," Iris explained.

"Who are you?" I asked the person in the water, only then did I realize the mermaid was a merman.

"I'm Alex." He said, glaring at me. I swallowed. This can not be happening.

"Iris? Can I talk to you for a minute? Alone?" I asked.

"Sure." She replied. We quickly walked to the rocks. "What's up?"

"I don't trust him." I said glancing over at Alex.

"I don't really trust him either, but he said he'll keep all of this a secret, so I guess I have no choice but to trust him." Iris explained.

"Just please, be careful."

"I will." She smiled. I opened my arms for a hug, and she gratefully took it.

"Alright love birds, that's enough. I need to take Iris to my place." Alex called from the water. Iris and I separated and a blush began to creep onto her cheeks.

"I'll see you later, okay?" I said.

"Yeah." She gave me one more small smile before she went to the water.

She walked in and within seconds she had a tail. She turned to look at me and I smiled and waved at her. She waved back before diving into the water.

I ran my hand through my hair as I walked home. I pulled my house keys out of my pocket and unlocked the door. I went to my bedroom and laid down on my bed, and stared up at the ceiling.

If someone told me a week ago my best friend was a mermaid I would have laughed in their faces.

What have I gotten myself into?

Here y'all go! Hope you enjoyed!!!
