Nini was notoriously horrible when she was sick, I mean who could blame her? Being sick sucks, but she takes it to a whole nother level. Nini was always a nice and considerate person, but when she was sick, that was no mans land. And to put it plainly, Ricky was terrified. It was saturday, Ricky was about to head to the skatepark, when he got that dreaded call. The idea of walking up to that door and facing the hell on the other side was daunting. But he'd do anything for Nini even if that meant going through hell. And by hell he means looking after her when she was sick.
"Ricky" Carol said, guilt dripping in her tone, obvious even through Ricky's deteriorating phone. "Me and Dana have to go to a work event this weekend, but Nini's sick... So we were wondering if you could look after her." After a pregnant pause, Ricky finally replied.
"Okay" His voice was pained and reluctant,
"Thank God." Dana sighed in the background of the call.
"Ricky? Be brave kiddo" Carol grimaced. To anyone who didn't know Nini, it would seem like a joke but Carol was deadly serious.
Breathing deeply, he reached to knock on the door but he wobbled forwards as Carol hurried Dana out the door.
"Hi Ricky, Bye Ricky" Carol rushed. Dana turned around to wave and whispered
"Good Luck" Ricky nodded and gulped as he headed into the house,
"I heard that mom" Nini screamed down the stairs as her parents left. "You don't have to look so sad to see me Ricky" Nini huffed with her arms crossed as she stood on the stairs.
"I-I, no, Nini." Ricky stuttered, nerves getting the better of him.
"Save it" Nini hissed, suddenly grabbing her abdomen, she rushed up the stairs. Ricky dropped his stuff and dashed up after her. He found her crouching with her head over the toilet, throwing up weakly.
"Nini, are you okay?" He asked softly while rubbing her back.
"What do you think?" She shouted before turning to the toilet again. Wincing at the sound of vomit and Nini's harsh tone, he started to leave the bathroom. "Leaving already? Can't handle me?" She yelled after him.
"No I'm going to get the stuff I brought for you" He replied flatly, trying to remain composed. She didn't mean it. He had to remind himself. A minute or two later, Ricky popped his head round the door, to see Nini sitting with her head on her knees on the floor. He picked up a towel and lifted it to her face to wipe off the vomit. He then scooped her up, she nestled her head into his shoulder reluctantly. He carried her to her bed and carefully rested her down amongst the pillows. Picking up his bag from the hallway he sat on the edge of Nini's bed. "I brought you some comfy clothes. Your favourite hoodie of mine and some sweats." Nini snatched them up quickly, not wanting to give him the pleasure of being right. Ricky silently grinned to himself, she loved his clothes but never wanted to admit defeat. "I also brought you some chocolate m&ms for when you can eat again and the blanket you insist on using at my house" He giggled, Nini tried to hold back her smile but she couldn't. "I'll be back in a second Neens" He left the room quickly, filling up a water bottle with ice water and leaving his shoes and skateboard tidily in the hallway. When he came back into the room, Nini was grumpily curled up around her knees, she tried to supress her smile when he came in but failed. He put the stuff down carefully, trying to avoid her inevitable anger.
"Ricky." She demanded. He turned his head alertly, if he was being honest he was slightly scared. "Cuddles." He giggled and climbed into a bed beside her. She'd changed into his clothes and had his blanket around her knees. They lay there for a while, Nini's back against his chest, Ricky's knees locked behind hers. Her entire back half touching his front, his head was nestled into her neck, giving her soft kisses there every so often. "I'm sorry I'm so annoying when I'm sick" She muttered, Ricky turned her body and stared into her eyes,
"You are not, and will never be annoying. Sure you're a little agressive and downright scary-" Nini cut him off with a soft punch to the shoulder and a small laugh. "But I love you for it"
"You love me for it?" She prodded with a smirk. "Prove it" She whispered in his ear. He grabbed her by her hips and pulled her so she was straddling his lap causing her to giggle and pull him up to meet her by the scruff of his shirt. He kissed her so ferociously you would think they hadn't kissed in years. At this point, he'd completely forgot she'd just spent hours throwing up but that didn't matter to him. He just wanted to be with her. She rolled them both over so she was underneath again. Abandoning her lips, he caused her to groan in annoyance but she quickly forgot about any irratation when he moved down to her neck, looking up at her with a smirk.
"Oh shut up" She muttered, pulling him back up to her lips. He laughed but happily obliged her wishes.
The doorbell. Nini had never felt more pure hatred for the doorbell. Josh grinned sadly as he slid out of her bed.
"Oh" Nini laughed.
"What?" Ricky said with a confused expression. Nini made a big deal of looking him up and down. Suddenly clocking it, Ricky groaned and flopped onto her bed. "Is it that obvious?"
"Yup" She answered popping the p as she skipped down the stairs, smoothing down her clothes and hair as she went. She opened the door to see a smiling EJ and Gina, holding hands??
"Nope. I'm not having this today" She yelled as she slammed the door closed. Hearing the shouts from upstairs, Ricky prised open the window.
"Don't take it personally, she's ill" He called, waving goodbye. They also waved and turned around awkardly. Nini walked into the room, to say she was grumpy would be a massive understatement.
"You're lucky I love you" She muttered under her breath as she dragged him back to the bed.
"I know I am" He said proudly, "Now, let's watch lemonade mouth." Nini immediatly perked up and sat between Ricky's legs with her head on his shoulder. She kissed his cheek sweetly.
"Thank you Ricky, really" She smiled,
"Anything for you" He replied honestly, "I'd even let you puke on me... but please don't!" They laughed together and settled down to watch Nini's favourite film. And Ricky would never dare admit to her, but it was one of his favourites too.
