It's 2AM. Olivia lay on her bed staring at the ceiling and not because it was interesting. I don't mean to offend Olivia's ceiling, I'm sure you're really interesting but you know...
Anyway, she was bored. Actually bored doesn't even cover it but I can't think of another word for bored. She'd been awake since 5AM yesterday, and for some unknown reason she was the most awake she'd ever been. She'd tried everything: reading, having a bath, listening to music, podcasts and even audio books. Against all commom sense, she decided to do what everyone said not to when you want to sleep, go on her phone. On autopilot, she scrolled through instagram but nearly instantly she was kicked off the app with an alert about parent controls. Groaning she threw her phone across her bed. Realising that wasn't the best idea she scampered over to check it was okay. Then she remembered, Josh had the password.
"Hey you awake?" She texted to Josh, praying he was awake.
In oceanside, Josh too was staring at his phone. He was never very good at sleeping. He grinned to himself as a text from Olivia pinged across his phone.
"Always. You?" He joked.
Snorting to herself Olivia called him instead,
"Yeah, I can't sleep. I've tried everything. What's the password for my instagram?"
"I can't tell you that, it's cheating, we agreed" Josh laughed.
"Joshy pleeaaassee. I'm begging you." She pleaded, he laughed then sighed. It was time for the truth.
"Olivia. Don't get mad."
"Josh. What did you do? It's got to be bad if you're calling me Olivia."
"I'm sorry" He sighed, "I kinda... forgot the password for your instagram." Olivia was completely silent for a while.
"Oh. My. God" She said quietly, "I can't believe you" She whisper screamed. Her parents where still asleep on the other side of the house but they might hear her.
"Liv, I'm so sorry. Genuinely, is there anything I can do?" He sounded so remorseful Olivia couldn't help but sigh and take back her anger.
"No it's okay Josh, I'm just mad I haven't fallen asleep yet"
"Hey" He burst out after thinking for a second, "I have a crazy idea"
"I'm listening" She said with intrigue and a small smile.
"You only live about 40 minutes away, right? So how about we meet halfway if both of us can't sleep we might as well do something fun" He suggested with a grin which she could nearly hear,
"That sounds amazing" She squealed, "If you text me somewhere to meet I'll leave as soon as I can"
"Cool, see you soon"
"Love you, bye" It slipped out without her realising. She stared at his name on the phone in shock waiting anxiously for his response.
"Love you too Livvy" He hung up and sighed. Did she mean it in a friendly way? Trying to ignore his overthinking, he hurried into his pink SanFrancisco hoodie over a striped shirt and random pair of sweats. He grabbed a pen and paper and wrote a quick note to explain his absence in case he didn't get back before his parents woke up.
'I've gone to see Liv -Josh'
On the other side of LA, Olivia was grabbing her phone charger. In the hustle of leaving a note for her parents she forgot to grab a jacket.
'Don't worry please. I couldn't sleep and I've gone to meet Josh halfway between his house and mine. I'll update you on where I am if I go anywhere. Love you -Olivia'
