~Professor Pendragon

——————————————————————
"Miss l/n..."

You quickly stood up, straightening your robes and your hair.

"Excuse me, Professor Snape. I was just reminiscing. I should've been paying attention to where I was going." You squeaked out.

Despite calling all the other professors by their first names, you still couldn't bring yourself to call Severus Snape by his. This man before you always put you at a loss for words. You guiltily looked up at him.

"Still using excuses, miss l/n?" He sneered.

"Er.. I-I... uh." You stammered, trying to come up with something to say next.

"No need, f/n. I was only teasing." He waves his hand in dismissal. "Tell me... what were you  "reminiscing" about?" He asks with the tilt of his head.

Unsure if you should mention it to him, you think of not telling him but, you know he is still a legilimens so you might as well.

"I was just thinking back upon graduation and when Dumbledore had first asked me to become a professor." You state calmly.

"Oh?" He questioned.

"Yes, I was... am, still wondering why he would've chosen me to become the new professor for defense against the dark arts..." you let your sentence trail off in thought, forgetting for a moment that he was there. You quickly looked back up at him.

"I am... sure he had his reasons. Besides, you were my best pupil during your time here." He reassured you.

Blushing, you smiled at him. It still amazed you that after all this time, he left you breathless.

He took notice to this, and considering you were not a student anymore he could make advances on you. Yet? He was still unsure. Remembering Lily made his heart ache and he hated the thought of moving on from her. He wondered what she would think if someone else would take her place in his heart.

You continued looking at him, wondering what he was thinking.

"Would you like to patrol the halls with me?" You asked hopefully. You would love to have some company to fill the dark, cold hallways of Hogwarts.

He thought for a moment.

"Yes, I would... enjoy that." He smiled.

As the two of you continued through the hallway, a thought came to your mind. Instead of pushing it away or hiding it from him, you spoke.

"Why do you never speak of Lily?" You questioned.

He stopped immediately in his tracks. You looked back at him, regretting your decision. You knew you should've just kept quiet. However, the expression on his face had turned from stone to something... softer? You walked up to him. He stared back at you with his onyx eyes, sadness filling them.

"I suppose it's because I was the reason she died. If I hadn't gotten involved in the battle, perhaps she would still be here." He looked at the ground. He knew that wasn't true, Voldemort was keen on killing Harry and it wouldn't have mattered if he was involved or not; but he wanted to make up an excuse for you.

Not wanting to push the matter further, you nodded at him solemnly. You reached for his large hands, grasping them in yours.

"If you ever want to talk about it, I'm here."
