Friend or Foe

"Arrgh!!" You yelled defiantly.

You hit the ground with your fist.

"Now, now. Don't be a sore loser, Miss l/n." Remus smirked at you.

"I haven't won a single game of gobstones and you seem to win in a matter of seconds!"

"Luck my dear, luck." He laughed.

You sighed in defeat and smiled at him.

"Thanks."

He looked at you with a puzzled expression.

"For what?"

"For taking my mind off of everything. I really appreciate it, I really needed it."

He gave you a reassuring smile.

"Anytime."

As you stood up to go to your desk, you glanced at the clock on the wall. It read 11:00 pm.

"Geez, it's awfully late isn't it."

Remus just let out a small grunt of agreeance as he picked up his gobstones.

Suddenly someone knocked on the door.

You looked at Remus, wondering if he could be expecting someone. He just shook his head.

You looked back at the door, another knock came.

"Come in?" You called.

The door creaked open slowly. When the door was completely open, there was no one there.

Confused, you went to look out into the hallway.

Looking down the corridors, there was nothing, only the flickering of candlelight on the walls.

"That's strange..." you trailed off.

You wondered if Peeves could be up to his usual antics, but he would be snickering nearby if it were him.

Who could've knocked?

You went back over to Remus as he was standing up.

"So, who was it?" He asked.

"There was no one there and no footsteps down any of the corridors..."

He placed the gobstones in his coat pocket and headed to the doorway to see for himself.

As he peered around, he scratched his chin.

"That is strange, isn't it." He repeated.

"Why don't we go stroll the hallways and see if we can find anyone?" You asked him.

"Good idea. Best to make sure there's no one out of bed."

Remus pulled out his wand and used the lumos charm to light his way. You took a few steps forward before he stopped you, a hand held out.

"Maybe you should turn into your animagi form? It might be useful if we need to sniff someone out."

"Are you sure you just don't want to see my animagi form?" You asked curiously, laughing.

"No, I'm quite serious. You really might be useful." He said with a stern tone.

"Okay, give me a second."
