Luke
I woke up with a pounding sensation in my head. I turned to reach for Malaya's body, but she wasn't there.
I may have been drunk last night, but I do have a decent recollection of the events that happened. Our kiss at the Trevi Fountain, tossing the coins, and telling her I love her.
Damn, I love her.
I love every bit of her. Every single inch. She has the most beautiful soul in the world and I cannot imagine what my life was like before I had met her.
I was kind of bummed to not see her sleeping next to me, but she probably needed to get back to her room anyways. I noticed that Ashton wasn't in here either.
Weird.
Luke Hemmings: ash, wru?
Luke Hemmings: you weren't here since i got back last night :(Ashton Irwin: well, i figured u n malaya would do the nasty so i slept with cal n mike :)
That answered my question, I guess.
-
"So, how was last night?" Calum smirked at me as I sat with them at breakfast.
"Shut your holes. We didn't do anything like that. We just kissed-"
"AWW! Lukey got a kiss!" Michael teased, putting his hands under his chin as if he were a child. I laughed at my goofy best friend.
"How was it?" Ashton asked.
I sighed, remembering the feeling of her lips on mine. "It felt like my whole life led up to that moment. It just, felt so right."
I got more teases after that cheesy sentence, but it was true. I couldn't even properly describe the feeling I had in words. "Speaking of Malaya, where is she?" Mike asked.
I haven't seen her either since last night. She usually comes down for breakfast even earlier than I do, but maybe she was hungover? I don't know.
"I don't know. I haven't seen her since last night."
"Maybe she's just hungover." Calum shrugged, stuffing his face with scrambled eggs. I did want to believe what he thought, but it was weird that she hasn't come down yet.
-
After breakfast, I decided to check up on her. Maybe she didn't feel so good after last night, so I wanted to make sure she'd feel better.
But as I walked up to her room, the housekeeping lady was cleaning. "Uh, excuse me? Is the guest here?" I asked, speaking slowly in hopes that she would understand me.
"Uh, no. No one here." she replied to the best of her abilities.
I couldn't process what she said. No one is here?
I checked inside the room and all her things were gone. Her backpack, little hygiene bag, all gone.
Where did she go? Why did she leave?
Why didn't she say goodbye?
At this point, my heart was torn into pieces at the sight of the empty room. I couldn't believe it. She really just left like that.
I ran back up to my room. Maybe she left a note I never noticed?
"Luke! Why are you panting?!" Ashton exclaimed, jumping up from his bed. I probably startled him from slamming the door.
"Malaya...she's not here."
I looked at the notepad that the hotel provides on my bedside table, but there was no note. I scavenged all around the room to try and find a message for me.
"Luke! You're going to trash the place!"
"Why did she leave?!" I shouted, slumping down to the ground. The tears streamed down like waterfalls and there was no stopping them.
Remember when I said that I couldn't describe that feeling of when I kissed her?
My bad, this was the feeling I couldn't describe.
-
"Thank you all for joining us. Have a safe flight back!" Flavio said to all of us in the tour bus. I had asked him where Malaya went, but even he didn't know. He was just informed by the front desk that she checked out.
I took a look at the back of the bus, where she'd usually sit. It felt so weird and heartbreaking to not see her at peace by herself.
After all the normal security checks, we got into our departure gates. "Hey, man. You okay?" Michael asked, taking a seat beside me. I haven't said a word to anyone since my little meltdown at the hotel.
I just shook my head to respond. "I can't believe she did this. I thought we were going to be good pals." Calum pouted.
"Pals? What are you? Five?" Michael made fun of him, making Calum pout even more. As funny as that sounded, I didn't have it in me to smile.
I felt so numb. I felt like everything Malaya and I said to each other the past two weeks were nothing but words. It felt like nothing I said mattered to her.
"Flight 346 to Los Angeles, now boarding."
"That's us. Let's go." Ashton said and led the way.
We got settled in our first class seats. It's like I was going back to reality after living my fantasy for 2 weeks. I pressed my cheek against the cold glass, staring at the airport we were leaving soon.
"Listen, Luke. I know you love her," Ashton said, "but you knew that getting into this would be messy."
He was right. I didn't respond anymore, but he was right. I knew that going for her would be messy, but I didn't think that she'd leave me without saying goodbye.
I never even got her number or her socials. I literally have no contact with her.
The plane started to move so I switched my phone to airplane mode. As I did, I saw her face. The beautiful smile that I was able to catch yesterday.
Damn, that was just yesterday.
Just yesterday did I have the time of my life with the girl I love and thought loved me back. Who knew that all of it could be taken away in one second?
"Luke, there's gonna be a lot of paparazzi when we get back. Will you be okay?" Ashton asked me, his eyes filled with concern.
I give him half a smile, "I'm not alright, but I'll pretend."
As we took off, I watched the ground disappear from underneath me. I did my best to hold back my tears and trust me, it was almost impossible to do.
I checked my phone once again, to see Malaya's beautiful and content smile. The photo stared at me as if it tried to tell me to smile too.
I just didn't have the heart to do so.
