"It's a funny thing about life, once you begin to take note of the things you are grateful for, you begin to lose sight of the things that you lack."
-German Kent"For today's lesson. I want you all to grab a partner and we will be practising the art of the famous ballroom dance, the waltz,"
Everyone groaned around me as soon as those words left Mrs Mvubu's mouth.
"Now now, don't get over excited, gather around so I can tell you about the waltz"
We all walked towards the stage and watched as she explained the history of the waltz and how it's done.
"It all dates back to the 16th century, back in Europe as they say..." I zoned out completely after that and felt a tap on my shoulder.
"Hey, you wanna be my partner?" I was taken back by the question that Nathan asked me. He had an innocent smile on his face.
"Sure, why not?" I said as he took a hold of my hand.
"Now listen to my instructions, class" Mrs Mvubu said as she grabbed the mic.
I looked at Nathan and winked at him.
"Now young gentlemen, listen to the following steps carefully" she said fixing her skirt.
"I actually like dancing, don't step on my toes" Nathan said in a funny tone.
"All the men, step forward with your left foot and ladies, step back with your right foot"
"Right foot step sideways to the right, and ladies left foot step sideways to the left"
"That's right, Charmaine and Andile, you're getting it right. Step forward so everyone can see you"
I laughed at the pair and I saw Nathan saluting Andile.
"Bring your left foot next to your right foot, and ladies bring your right foot next to your left foot"
We continued and listened to the rest of the steps as we mastered the waltz. Mrs Mvubu walked around the hall and inspected our dances.
"Nathan and Ada, wonderful" she complimented us as she moved on to the next pair.
"Okay class, you may now break apart and finish it off with a bow. Excellent from all of you, next week I will be assessing you so practice for the rest of the week and come back fully prepared for our next lesson"
The bell rang just as soon as she said those words and we took our bags and parted ways.
I walked over to Charmaine and we started talking about how we didn't expect the lesson to be that fun.
"Andile was actually a great partner" she said blushing as she held my hand.
I felt a tap on my shoulder before we entered our English class.
