It's so dull! I thought as I took in the blank, white walls, the beige, plush carpet and the empty room. I spun a full circle and heaved a heavy sigh. If I'm gonna live in this box for possibly the rest of my life, then I need to make it...me.
Okay, first things first, color. I ran through the mental list of colors and automatically decided on something light, maybe light green or baby blue. My bed, dressers and tables aren't being delivered until tomorrow afternoon, which mean another night on the floor, something I'm not exactly fond of in result of back pains.
All the boxes that are labeled Jamie's stuff were crammed in my room, scattered all about the spacious area. Huffing and puffing, I relocated the boxes that contained my clothes to the walk-in closet next to the bathroom.
The house came with two master beds, one room, one guestroom, three baths, and a few mini closets. The kitchen came fully furnished with a two-sided stainless steel refrigerator, a gas stove, a microwave, two sinks, and a dishwasher. Besides from the living room, the rest of the house is relatively bare. However, I still didn't know how they'd manage to deliver the plasma, couch set, coffee table, dining table and our kitchen table but not the beds, bureaus and dressers.
I spent the next few hours hanging up my dress clothes while folding my pajamas and organized them into the cubicles that were built in the closet. Then, I arranged my books, movies, and trinkets into one of the shelves for temporary storage until the movers brought in my three-tier bookshelf. Satisfied with my arrangement, I folded the boxes and walked them down to the garage before dumping them in a corner.
There were still a few bags and containers littered around my room that needed to be taken care of, but lacking materials, I just shuffled them off to the side until everything is present.
I grabbed the painting of the California sunset that was propped against the wall and hung it between the two windows.
There, I smiled inwardly, perfect.
I closed the door softly and tapped my knuckles lightly against Andy's door. He looked up from sorting through his stuff with a smile. "Hey, everything okay?"
I leaned against the door jam, taking in his room. It's a few feet bigger than mine with windows that has better views but his bathroom is across the hall. His floor was bare and I furrowed my brows. "Where's your stuff?"
"Oh," He jerked his thumb towards the closet door. "I just stuffed them in there for now."
"Smart."
"I know."
"And modest." I added, arching a brow.
He smiled cheekily. "Oh stop it. You're flattering me."
I snorted and bounced down the stairs, looking for my mother in her bedroom. I found her putting her toiletries in her bathroom. "Hey Mom, do you need help?"
She tucked a piece of hair behind her ears and smiled, shaking her head. "No, I got everything in order anyways."
"That fast?"
"Uh-huh. The kitchen is fully settled, so is the living room, and the dining room." She stood up and scooted around me to the sleeping area. "We need some food and new bedspreads, but other than that, we're good to go."
"How did you manage to get the TV in place?"
"Oh, I asked one of the neighbor's son to help me. They're surprisingly strong."
I stilled momentarily before an impassive mask slid over my features. I worked to keep my voice calm and light when I asked, "Really?"
"Yes. I should let you know that I invited them, our new neighbor, over for dinner tomorrow night. Will that be enough time to unpack and organize things?"
