Six.

"What do you think of Bryce Middleton?" Ryan asked as I plopped down my tray and sat next to him. I looked at his lunch to mine and grimaced.

"It's okay." I retrieved a fork from the silverware packet and poked at the brown lump occupying the space on my tray. "Would be great if I got lunch without all the brown crap."

He chuckled. "The brown crap is your lunch."

I frowned at it and pushed the tray out of reach. "Gross. Is there anything edible here?"

"Yup." He popped the 'p' and nodded at the vending machine in the corner of the room. There were two and they were located at the two farthest corners of the cafeteria. Even two vending machines wasn't enough to satiate the hungry students that waltzed into the spacious lunchroom.

"Really?" I asked skeptically. It couldn't be the only place that sold food that were the least bit edible. Looking around the cafeteria, I could see students with gray trays and brown lumps of meat on their forks.

"Don't believe me?" He raised his brows. "Go ahead and take a bite out of that thing."

I scrunched up my nose. "No thanks."

"How was your morning classes?" Ryan inquired as I pawned through my pockets for change so that I can replete my stomach. I didn't have time for breakfast this morning. My mom had dragged me out shopping all through Sunday for school supplies, clothes, a backpack and other essentials and I didn't sleep until at least two. To make matters worse, Ryan was my ride this morning and he'd overslept, meaning we were both late.

"Eh, it's all right." I replied. "Pre-Calc was good. English was fun. History was...historical." I laughed at my use of adjectives. "Oh! Biology was amazing! We learned about the human body and we're starting dissections next week."

There were a lot of stares as I walked in with Ryan this morning; not mention the whispers but I tried to shove that eventful morning from my head. The classes were informative and the teachers were nice. I didn't get lost so I had Ryan to thanked for that. My folder were stuffed with forms for my mom to sign and class curriculum and expectations. It wasn't anything new but since it wasn't the start of a new school year, I didn't have to suffer through seven periods of repetitive lectures about class rules.

Already I had piles of homework and one project that's due next week. Fortunately, or unfortunately, I didn't have Ryan for any of my morning classes. I'm taking AP courses while I guess he's in regular courses that's required. It's not like Ryan's gonna need academics to be admitted to a prestigious college. With his football and track skills, that's all he needed.

I had three more classes after lunch: Physical Education, French Honors, and Calculus. It's an extra course my mother signed me up for. She said it was preparation for college.

"Uh..."

"What?" I asked him, feeling uncomfortable by the way he was staring at me; the expression on his face was one of disbelief and awe.

"You're the first person I know who likes Biology." He chuckled lowly. "I'm so serious."

I made a face. "It's an interesting subject." I commented.

"It will be." He answered. "Once we start learning about Human Reproduction." He winked.

I burst out laughing, instantly understand what he had meant. "You're disgusting."

"But you love me anyway."

I giggled. "Yeah, sure." I stuck my hand in my front pocket and felt around for a dollar. "Uh! Where is that money?"
