DJ's POV

I was sitting in a tree reading a book when I heard someone calling my name. "Yo DJ, what ya doin up there?" Sam, a friend of mine, called out. I haven't seen her since back in New York when I was about 15 and dally was 10. Dally got jailed for the first time.

"Reading, may want try sometime" I answered jumping down "kid why I gotta beat your head in or at least break your ribs" she gently threatened. "Again?" I asked as she lit a smoke.

"Yes again" she said, "I'm surprise you're still sober, you okay?"

"Fine, just stopped drinking for the kid. I can't leave dally alone with you know who looking all over for us, that's why I left New York. To protect Dallas"

"Kid don't you think I know that, why hell you think I'm in this dump"

I like Sam she one of my best friends. She was set to a all girls reformatory. Because her boyfriend and his gang had killed a man and was put on trial for manslaughter when her and the rest of her boyfriends gang girlfriends didn't say who did it or what happen.

They later sent the all boys to jail and all the girls to an all girls reformatory for four years. She got out last month.

The boys either became drug dealers, suicidal, or just plain old insane, and yes one did even became a killer that killed 6 people and was prosecuted.

Jail is not a happy place and whatever lies you been told about it is bullshit.

After walking a bit we went to the Curtis house, and this time I actually remembered where it was. As we walked in dally took one look at Sam and his eyes widen with surprise.

"Kill it with fire" He said.

"Aw dally you don't mean it" Sam said "no I'm pretty sure I meant kill you with fire" he replied. "Be nice" I commanded with a smile, they never did have the best relationship but it's funny to watch Sam try hug every cute thing she sees. She hugged dally for hours when he was a little kid.

We were the only ones in the house in till pony and Johnny walked in. Sam gasped with a big smile on her face running to hug pony boy and Johnny catching them offguard they didn't look like they could breathe. Turning pink with air loss, I tried pulling Sam off of them but she wouldn't budge.

"Why is there a girl hugging us? Not that I'm complaining but you know still" pony said, as Johnny just let it be.

"That is my friend Sam and she gonna be in town for a few months or more" I answered, "oh my gosh you two are so cute!" Sam squealed.

Ponyboy hugged back.

It was a bit awkward, in till dally pulled them away. Sam stayed close to the two, treating them as if they were 5.

They didn't seem to mind or notice. Whether it was on purpose or not I couldn't tell, but I just let them be.

Later that night I was at the house talking to Sam, I made sure dally or anyone else was home. When I found no one we got to talking.

"Okay so where is your psycho mother of yours?" Sam asked her feet on the wooden table as she drink some beer. "Hell if I know" I shrugged drinking some black coffee, I hated it. I want my beer but I knew better.

"Then why you let dally leave? She could be looking for him or something"

"Don't you think I know that!" I yelled throwing the mug I was holding against the wall. "Whoa, whoa, easy kid" Sam said alarmed but still calm, almost emotionless. That's how it is for most. You turn off any real emotion, if you don't you might explode with feels.
