Chapter 6

Johnny's P.O.V

I was walking to the jailhouse to pick up Piper she gets out today when a red mustang pulls up next to me, why now? why me? "hey there grease" one said I didn't say anything they got out, great just my luck I'm getting jump right before I go visit my girlfriend in the cooler. "You socs better watch it this is greaser territory" I said trying to be tuff.

"No buddy you better watch it" he said before anything else I saw someone run to us it was Piper "hey leave him alone!" she yelled "oh look the greaser got a girlfriend" a brown hair one said piper ran to them and punched one that he was out cold "now the rest of you rich kids better head back to your side of town if ya'll know what's good for you" she said opening a blade.

They left and she ran to me she hugged me "johnnycake you gotta be more carful, I don't want you getting hurt" she said still hugging me "I'm fine you came just in time but I can take care of myself" I laughed a little she let go "I know but I don't like seeing you hurt" she said "I ain't going to get hurt anytime soon" I told her "you never know" she said I put my arm around her and we walked for home well it's more of our friends home but it's more like home then my real home at last I'm wanted here.

Piper's P.O.V

I walked out of the darkness of the jailhouse to the bight light of sun shine I had only two things on my mind: Johnny Cade and a ride home.

I saw that some socs were with someone I got closer to see it was Johnny he must of came to pick me up from the jailhouse or something he so sweet I punched one soc out cold then yelled at them they left and Johnny and I went to the Curtis house hold.

We walk in to have only two bit and pony home "hey guys!" two said very kid like "hello boys" I said petting ponyboy "don't pet me" he said pushing my hand away "awe did pony miss his nap?" I asked "lay off" he said.
"What the matter with him?" Johnny asked "I think cause Piper petting him like he a pony" two joked after that we joked around when a knock came.

I got up to get it and opened the door to see a little girl crying "hello little girl are you lost?" I asked going to on one knee so we could be face to face "no I ran away from home my mommy and daddy are mean to me" she said "oh it's okay came inside and I'll help you" I picked her up and walked in I have a much bigger soft spot then Dallas.

"Why do you have a little girl?" two asked "cause I'm going to help her" I said putting her down she looked scared to see new faces "what's your name?" Johnny asked her "I'm Lizzy but you can call me Liz" she answered.
"Why ain't she a cutie" two said "who are you guys?" she asked "well Liz that's Keith but just call him two bit, him over there is ponyboy, and last Jonny but ya'll can call him johnnycake if you want and I'm Piper" I said.

"Where you found her?" pony asked "the front door and I'm keeping her" I said "yeah!" Liz yelled happily "but if her mom and dad come for her?" two asked "I don't want go back with them there meanies" she said "well I guess if no one gets jailed she can stay that and Darry says yes" Johnny said sitting next to the girl "how old are you?" I asked "I'm this many" she put up her hand "so 5?" Johnny asked she nodded.

"She so cute" I said "thank you" she said siting next to me and Johnny "wait don't move!" two said running to the other room he came out with a camera then took a picture "see a happy little family" he showed us the picture where it was me, Johnny, and Liz we looked like a happy family "does this mean I have a new mommy and daddy?" she asked a smile on her face "sure" Johnny said I smiled at him.

"You ain't even dating but you have a kid now?" pony said "oh right we forgot to tell you guys" I said "we are dating" Johnny said "your joking" two said putting the picture down but I took it I liked it cause I never had a happy family or even much of a family but this makes feel like I do and will.

"Well then Darry, Steve, and soda should be getting home soon so you come with me and we'll get you all cleaned up" I said I told her to take a bath she did so I found some old cloth that would fit her we were done with everything and we sat in the living room I was brushing her hair, she had light brown eyes with kind of dark brown hair that was to her shoulders.

"Thank you" she said in a low voice for only me to hear "your welcome" I smiled Dallas walked in "who the little girl?" Dallas asked "she Johnny and mine new daughter" I answered "uh your not even dating so" forgot didn't tell him so we did he was okay with it "so he my uncle?" Liz asked "uh sure his your idiot uncle Dallas" I joked "yeah!" she looked like she was the happiest little girl in the world.

We play with her and soon the rest of the boys showed we told them and Darry said it's fine but me and Johnny have to take care of her like our own and I plan to, she fell asleep in my lap I put her to bed and walked back then laid my head on Johnny's shoulder.

"You okay?" he asked I closed my eyes "never been better" I smiled "what are you going to do when her real mom and dad come looking for her?" soda asked "and what makes you think they looking?" I asked "uh I don't know" he said "and you need to be 18 or up to took care of a kid" Steve said "you guys suck" I said sleepily "there right Piper you and Johnny need to keep this a secret and no matter what no trouble" Darry said "okay I'll b-b-behave" I had trouble saying the word behave.

"Do I need to be good to?" Dallas asked "umm not as much but don't have cops coming to the house and you should be fine" Johnny answered "good cause I don't want no kid making people think I gone soft" Dallas said "she as a name" pony said "that I forgot" Dallas is a bad uncle "it's Lizzy" soda said soon Darry went to sleep two bit left then Steve soda and pony went to bed I though about what they said and I just got her I can't lose her just as fast as I got her can I? No! "hey you should go to bed" Johnny said heading to bed himself.
"Oh right" we both headed for bed and kissed Liz forehead I was out like a light, I dreamed of what it would be like with Liz and how happy she be.

Family isn't connected by blood it's the people you grew up with that you love and care about, she maybe someone else kid but they didn't care for her but I will, I will care and love her better then anyone other mother will. She my kid now, and Johnny her dad.
