The blast doors opened with a woosh. Out of old habit, I peered out from my chambers before I remembered that I was for all intents and purposes a sort of guest to these bucketheads. Before I pulled on my leather jacket, heading out into the hallway, I looked down at the reminder I had received from Kylo Ren's lightsaber the night before. The wound was completely healed, only a pink scar left in its place. I sighed to myself. I held on to the belief that it was Ben, not Kylo, who had entered my room while I was asleep, and healed me up with a sliver of his own life force. No other explanation made as much sense, and no other explanation felt as good. I smiled to myself.

My lightsaber hilt was safely strapped to my leg, just in case any of the tin cans wanted to dance. I had heard the launch over the intercom link when Kylo Ren's TIE Silencer had taken off, so I figured there was no time like the present to betray his already uncertain, frail trust. Best case scenario, he'd never find out I had even left my quarters. Worst case... I tried not to think about being at the end of his lightsaber again, but in that scenario, I knew he wouldn't be holding back.

The Star Destroyer was quieter than usual; on my stroll around the ship, I only met a handful of Stormtroopers. I made sure to tip my imaginary cap to them on the way. They didn't even give me a look. Exactly how I wanted it. I came upon general Hux's office, recognizing it from way back when I had first been brought onboard. He must be hiding something worth knowing in that desk of his, I thought. Two Stormtroopers were stationed outside the blast doors. One of them stepped forward and held up a hand in front of my face, motioning for me to stop. Rude.

"Halt" he said through his modulator. The distorted sound was nowhere near as intimidating as the one emitted from Kylo Ren's helmet. "This sector is off-limits."

I was just about to raise my hand and speak undeniable commands at the two idiots when I noticed a black BB-9E astromech droid rolling towards us further down the hall. Preferring not to be caught and reported, I instead locked my hands behind my back and stretched myself as tall as I could get.

"I am here to see the general" I lied. I kept my expression flat.

The Stormtroopers looked at each other, clearly confused about the lack of information about my arrival.

"The general left for Minfar with the Supreme Leader" the second trooper informed me. The first one gave the second a quick glance as if to tell him to shut up.

"Ah, excellent" I exhaled, relieved to hear that I had even fewer obstacles in my way. "Still. Our Supreme Leader has instructed me to retrieve something from the general's office."

"We have not been informed" the first trooper stated. I could sense his confusion even stronger now.

The BB-9E rolled past me behind my feet, watching me on its way and beeping insults to itself, surely about me, before vanishing around a corner.

"It's on a need-to-know basis" I continued lying. I took a step forward, raising an eyebrow as I leaned closer to that stupid white helmet. "I am the Supreme Leader's apprentice. Do you really think it wise to challenge me?" This particular lie tasted sour in my mouth, but I kept my cool.

"Eh-... N-no, of course not" the Stormtrooper stuttered.

I straightened my back again, celebrating internally.

"Then I will just be a moment-"

The second trooper stepped forward as well, blocking the blast doors, and my heart stopped. He raised his wrist to his mask and spoke into his wrist link. The first trooper shrugged casually at me.

"Just protocol" he assured me. I felt anything but reassured.

He threw his blaster up in the air, flipped it, but failed to catch it on its descent. It landed on the floor, and he swiftly picked it up, clearing his throat awkwardly. I wanted to roll my eyes.
