"Horvins!" Guavo raised a hand in greeting as he continued across the sand. All I heard was muffled voices as he spoke to someone in bay three. The raised metal walls surrounding the area, blocking whatever went on inside, were deteriorating, rusty.
Fern had scuttered off on some business of his own: I hadn't asked what he was up to, and I didn't want to pry too much into the mind of our new companion, with all his buried grief. All I could do was wait around with Thoria and Ruqess, placing my trust in Guavo to find us a shuttle. My foot tapped on the ground impatiently out of its own volition. I noticed Thoria glancing over at me, but I didn't acknowledge it. The air felt charged, Ruqess vibrating with disgust. I tried not to take it personally.
Thoria cleared her throat.
"Do we have a plan?" she asked, taking a step closer to me.
"Possibly" I pondered. "What have you seen?"
She kicked the sand.
"Not much" she sighed, as if she had any control over her visions, and blamed herself for their inconsistency. "Just a girl. With blonde hair."
Jakara's face materialised in my memory.
"I sense hope."
I nodded. Hope. I did have hope that the resistance could spare us a couple of fighter pilots, or at the very least a stealthy starship. A spark also ignited in me that the future would once again bring me to Ben... Kylo.
"Longing...?" Thoria continued hesitantly.
My eyes suddenly darted to meet hers, and quickly down at the sand again, guilt probably shining on my face. My cheeks flushed hot as I wracked my brain for an explanation to my reaction.
"I've got an idea."
"I wouldn't if I were you." Ruqess stared out over the busy street, arms crossed over her chest. She had raised the cowl over her bald, horned head again. Sharp, knife-like spikes shot out of one of her forearm guards, catching the sunshine and gleaming in my eye.
"Wouldn't what?" I asked, unable to control my snarky tone.
"I've heard the First Order's strengthened their interceptions" she commented with bother. She raised her eyebrows, sighing dramatically. "If you contact your friends, the First Order will know."
I bit my lip as annoyance rose in me. Ruqess reminded me of being a youngling at the Jedi temple, unable to get a grip on the Force, but too stubborn to listen to the masters' words, trying to enlighten me on my mistakes. I didn't want to ask, but being mulish wouldn't help.
"What would you do then?" I crossed my arms, mirroring her.
Ruqess rolled her eyes and looked at me.
"I'd listen to him." She nodded towards the bay, in the direction Guavo had disappeared. "He might be on the run, but he's got a lot of supporters."
"You sure know it all, don't you" I snapped.
In a split second, Ruqess was in my face, bending her neck to look down into my eyes. I spotted the dark red skin and black tattoos between the cloth on her wrapped arms. Her towering frame would have frightened me, if I wasn't so used to the looming, intimidating display.
"I know how to not be an idiot" she snarled, teeth bared.
"Hey! Hey, girls!" Guavo came jogging back from the bay, holding his hands up to push us apart. "I'm gone five minutes, and you're at each others' throats again?" He chuckled.
Not far behind him came a shiney protocol droid on stiff metal legs, with a blaster rifle strapped to its back. I hadn't seen one before, but I was pretty sure they weren't built for combat.
