(Ruby)

Ruby's eyes opened slightly. She was still lazy from sleep. Glad she took the three days off from work, she closed her eyes, drifting back to sleep.

"Wakey, wakey."

She heard Andy's voice and reluctant to wake up, she did. Groaning, she brushed off her hair from her face and opened her eyes to see him smiling by the bed at her. He had in his hands a table of breakfast.

Breakfast in bed? She thought and immediately lifted her head. Andy was a bad cook! She pursed her lips.

Ruby sat on the bed and smiled at him. "Mmm... Smells good." She said and glanced at the meal.

He sat the table on her lap and sat beside her, "Breakfast for my queen." He kissed her cheek.

"Great. Looks delicious." She stared at the toasted bread, sausages and mug of coffee.

She lifted the toasted bread and saw it was burnt behind. She glanced at Andy.

"It's just a little scorched." He flashed her a sheepishly grin as he scratched his head with slight embarrassment.

She lifted the bread and took a bite. She couldn't swallow the burnt bread so she tried to push it down with some coffee to please him. She realized the coffee had too much sugar in it, her eyes wide, she restrained herself from spilling it.

"Is it that bad?" He asked as he looked at her.

She gulped and smiled at him. "Nah, it's great." She lied.

He took the table from her, "I know you're lying, Ruby." He said. "I'm a bad cook and I know it, was just trying to take turn in making you breakfast today."

Ruby looked at him, "That's sweet, honey. Just don't make breakfast again, pleease. Did you even taste the coffee?"

He feigned anger and took the table out of the room to the kitchen.

Ruby laughed. "Sorry!" She said and tossed the covers from her legs as she got off the bed.

She looked at her reflection in the mirror and tucking her hair into a ponytail, she smiled and walked into the washroom to take a shower.

(Ruby)

"Yes, mother. Tell dad, we are gonna come." Ruby said into the phone as she rolled her eyes.

Her parents were desperate for her to bring her boyfriend home to meet them. Especially her dad.

Ruby had been scheduling dates, but they never went because she'd been busy with work. Left for Andy alone, he was eager to meet the French dad and the lovely mom of the beautiful Ruby.

"When is that? Fix a date and no more disappointments." Her mother said.

"Yes, Mom. We'll definitely come, I'm just a little busy." Ruby replied, touching her temple.

Her mother sighed. "Alright. We'll be waiting. Say hi to Andy for me."

"Sure, mom." Ruby hang up. She laid in the sofa and sighed. Her mother could really be annoying. She thought, but she loved her anyways.

She looked at the TV and watched her favorite sitcom which was almost ending as she waited for Andy to come home from work.

She glanced at the clock on the wall and knew Andy was on his way home.

When the show ended and she picked up the remote to change the channel, her phone rang. Wishing it wasn't her mom again, she lifted the phone to her face and glanced at the caller ID.

It was her friend, Laura calling.

She shifted her body and sat down, answering the call, she placed the phone against her ear.

"What's up, girl?" Laura's soft voice was immediately heard.

Ruby smiled.

Talking to her for a while and with Laura telling Ruby everything that had happened at work, Ruby got up and walked to the kitchen.

Laura was a talkative. She would blab and exaggerate on issues, spicing them up as she'd always call it and Ruby was never bored talking to her. She enjoyed every bit of her gists, from her gossips about their clients to the cute guys she'd meet and her awkward moments. There was always something to talk about.

This time around it was about their new managing director who she happened to have a crush on.

Since when did they get a new director? Just today? She thought. She couldn't believe Laura's dad was retiring so soon.

"OMG, Ruby, he's freaking hot!" Laura squeaked.

Ruby indifferent, listened as her friend gushed over their new managing director.

"I was kinda sad with dad leaving the company in the hands of a new manager, but I couldn't agree less with his decision when I saw the breathtaking dude. Girl, I wanted to jump his bones right that moment. Nigga so fine!"  Laura continued, moaning a little.

Ruby grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge as she listened to her friend.

"That's good to know, Laura." She said, clearly not interested. She rolled her eyes and shook her head.

"I'm so sure you're gonna send Andy packing just at a glance at him." Laura said enthusiastically.

"Not gonna happen. I love Andy so much and no man is gonna take his place." Ruby stated matter of factly.

Laura groaned, "Whatever. I'm gonna take some files to him and putting my flirty looks on I'm hoping I might get to steal a kiss."

"Just don't pounce on him, honey. Now get off my phone." Ruby said and hang up. She poured a glass of water from the bottle and gulped it down her throat.

She shook her head and chuckled at her friend's craziness. Placing back the bottle in the fridge, she went to the lounge.
