(Damien)

Damien sat behind the desk and looked at the photos in front of him. They were pictures of Ruby. When she was in shs and college.

He'd never given up on her. He'd worked hard on himself to be worthy of her: gotten good grades, gotten a good job, and now he was well to do.

Ruby had been the reason he'd applied for the managing director job, even though he need not. He wanted to be close to her and wanted her to see he was no longer the 'ugly and dummy' boy.

It even became interesting when she couldn't recognize him. Was it because he'd changed or she was just pretending? He'd have to find out.

A knock came by the door.

"Come in." He said as he sat in the swivel chair. He instantly hid the pictures in the drawer of the desk.

The door opened and a legged lady entered. "Your cup of coffee, sir." She said as she placed it down on the desk.

She looked up at him and smiled, "You could call me if you need anything else."

Just looking at her, he said nothing. Just nodded and picked up the coffee after she'd left.

He chuckled to himself, Damn! He'd even developed love for coffee, because of Ruby. He knew that was insane, but he just loved everything about her.

Taking a sip, he recalled old memories of them, when Ruby had rejected his proposal. That was then, this is now. She would be his. He smiled with confidence.

(Ruby)

Ruby groaned with disappointment. Her car wouldn't start. Frustrated, she leaned on the car hopeless. How was she going to go home now? Take a taxi?  She sighed.

"You need a ride?" She heard a voice and turned.

She saw Damien coming to the parking lot. Couldn't he just leave her alone?

"I think it's broken. Come on, I'll give you a drive home and get it fixed for you by tomorrow." He said.

She looked at him. "I'll be fine."

"You're refusing an order from your boss?" He looked at her.

Gosh, he could be so annoying! She hesitantly stared at him.

"Let's go." He smiled and took her hand.

His hand on hers sent shivers through her. She tried to ignore it and wriggled herself from his grasp as they approached his car.

He opened the door for her and she sat in, waiting for him to get to the driver's seat. She sighed. Now, she was sitting in his car, what next? She asked herself.

Damien started the ignition and glanced at Ruby with a smile. She looked out the window, probably not wanting to be with him at that moment.

As they drove on the high way, he still noticed her uncomfortable. Still looking out the window.

"I'm sorry about what happened the last time." He said and waited for her to look at him.

She did, but said nothing.

"I shouldn't have done that." He added.

"It's okay." She softly said. "I know it wouldn't happen again."

He sighed and nodded. "It wouldn't."

She looked at him. Her eyes searching his as if wanting to confirm his words in them.
