(Ruby)
Ruby took Andy to see her family during the weekends. They loved him, which was a good thing.
She watched how they held conversation as they ate dinner, it made her happy. They talked like they'd known each other for years, sharing similar interests with her dad and her mom was fond of him.
"You're already like a son to us, dear. I'm glad my daughter's found a good man." Her mother said and looked at her dad.
He nodded. "Take good care of my little angel, she's very precious to me." He told Andy who smiled.
"I'm not 'little', daddy. Look I'm all grown up. I guess you should give that name to Janice." Ruby said as she rolled her eyes.
Her younger sister of about 16years old shook her head, "No way!"
They laughed.
"What's wrong with calling you that, honey? You liked it when I called you that." Her dad asked.
"That was when I was a kid." Ruby groaned. She cocked up her eyebrow.
"You'll forever be my little angels." He said, glancing at both his daughters. "even when your children are calling you mummies." He added.
Ruby shook her head and drank some water from her glass.
Andy chuckled. He was impressed. Her family was warm and friendly.
He took Ruby's hand and squeezed it gently. She smiled at him brightly.
***********
Her parents had insisted they stayed the night and so they did.
Sitting at the hall alone as she worked on her laptop, her mother entered.
"What are you still doing here?" She asked as she peered at Ruby's laptop.
"Work, mother. I need to finish this up, I'm submitting it to my boss. I don't want him on my neck on Monday." She said.
Her boss had made sure to let her work on things that weren't even her job, yet she couldn't complain. He was intended to stress her out. How annoying! And when she'd thought he was cute. What was so cute about him? She fumed.
"I see, but isn't it late?" She asked.
Ruby looked at her mother and went on to tell her about her boss and how everyone thought he was cute, but he wasn't to her and how he liked to pester her with work and projects.
Her mother held her hand, "Slow down, honey." She said.
Ruby exhaled and inhaled, realizing she'd been holding her breath whilst talking. "Sorry. He's just annoying, that's it."
"But he's good looking." Her mother said as she looked intently at her.
"Well, yeah. Kinda." Ruby shrugged.
"That's bad, honey. Very bad." She said, gritting her teeth.
"What is?" She asked, confused.
"Admiring another man when you're already getting engaged." Her mother explained.
Ruby sighed. "Andy and I are not yet engaged, mother and I'm not admiring him. I'm just stating a fact." She looked at her mother. "I love Andy so much and he knows it."
"Glad to hear that." Her mother held her chin. "Don't you think it's bad to leave Andy alone in the room?"
Stretching her arms and yawning she said, "I'll go to bed soon."
Her mother nodded and left.
Taking off her glasses, Ruby sighed and looked at nothing in particular on her laptop.
She bit her on her lower lip, shrugged and wore back her glasses, she still had a lot to do. She couldn't go to bed yet and she knew Andy would be asleep by the time she'd leave for sleep.
She sighed and focused on the file she was working on.
