The end of the season was nearing, and as a final surprise, the apex games reintroduced solo mode for the last week of the season, before yet another new legend appeared on the roster. You were a little nervous, you worked well with teams, and the thought of having no one to talk to was a little dampening. Your foot tapped nervously, you were sitting in your section of the ship, fiddling with one of the miscellaneous objects on your desk.
"Nervous, huh?" Elliot's familiar voice startled you out of your thoughts.
"Yeah, a little," You admitted.
"I don't like solos, myself. Of course, I love things being all about me, don't get that wrong, but talking to yourself is only so fun for a short amount of time," He said, looking into a handheld mirror, adjusting his hair.
"I'm sure it is," You said back.
Then, the all too familiar announcement of the dropship approaching cut you and Mirage's conversation short.
"I'll make sure to beat you this time," Mirage winked at you before walking to one of the docks.
You let out a sigh, as you always did before a match, and got ready to fight.
You looked over the map and watched many confident legends drop pretty early, making skyhook quite a busy place. You eventually decided on thermal, liking not only the amount of loot but the amount of cover, too. Instead of landing in the center, you landed on one of the outside structures, opening the lower supply bins, getting armor, and some grenades before heading up top. To your surprise, there was a legendary knockdown shield and an R-301 waiting for you.
"Hey, lucky me," you muttered to yourself, picking up the loot.
"ATTENTION: THERE IS A NEW KILL LEADER"
"already?" You turned to the large banners, seeing Crypto with 3 kills.
"damn."
You looted the rest of the thermal easily, you had the place to yourself, but you were outside of the ring. You took the balloon, heading towards the direction of skyhook; not only was it in the ring, but you were hoping to find some enemies who were still low from the fights that must've taken place there. You landed relatively close to some death boxes, cautiously keeping your guard while looting through them. You saw an enemy, it was mirage, standing and looting a death box.
"Sorry, Mirage." You fired at him.
The decoy disappeared.
"No, I'm sorry, Miss Y/N" He jumped from above, catching you off guard. You got knocked before you could even react.
"I gotcha this time, and lucky me, you've got a shiny res shield just for me!" He chuckled, walking over to you, he began to perform a finisher. He did his dances, his spins, and right as he was about to get the finishing kick-off, bullets fired from his left, killing him. You started ressing, hoping to get it off before the enemy walked over to finish you. The footsteps got louder, you weren't going to be able to finish. The nearby enemy slid over to you, gun aimed. You locked eyes with none other than Crypto, and his stern face relaxed, and his gun lowered. YOu had quite the bit of blood spilling out, and a needle was sticking out of your chest. You closed your eyes, bracing for his bullets to finish you off, but they opened when you heard a 'thunk'. A Phoenix kit was in front of you.
"There won't be another chance, don't be an idiot again, Agassi." He gave you a side glance as he looted through Mirage's things.
"Crypto, why...?" You started before he interrupted
"You'd better hurry, I hear more" He got up and walked away towards the sound of footsteps.
You finished getting yourself up, the golden shield turning purple, and you took the phoenix kit, your wounds closing up. You heard gunfire in a nearby building, and Crypto's kill count when from four to five, while you sat here with zero.
