Chapter 20: Distraction

Vale - Abandoned SDC Storage Warehouse

Y/N POV

I motioned Amelia to go on ahead while I tell the others on what to do. "Cayde what's your status!? We got lots of baddies out here so you better make it quick." I shouted out, whilst shooting some Beowolves running towards me.

~~I can see that.... I'm making my way out right now.... took a little detour.~~

I heard him say in between gun fire through the radio. I sighed before spotting a couple of Taken snipers by the buildings around us. That is before they got blown up by a bunch of pink explosions as I turned to see Teams CFVY and JNPR making their way towards me. "Y/N you ok!?" Jaune asked worriedly as I motioned to him I was all right. Before I could come up with a plan, a giant Taken Ogre broke in between two buildings as the structures slowly collapsed, causing the ground to shake.

I sighed in frustration before adding a some new fresh rounds in my hand cannon. "Just hold off the Grimm and I'll take care of that." I pointed towards the huge Ogre as they nodded in acknowledgment before Coco ordered them to their designated locations. I quickly ran up towards the giant Ogre while taking out a couple of Grimm and Taken on the way there. Before I could make a move on the Ogre, it shot out a huge beam from its head as I quickly rolled over towards an abandoned building for cover.

I took a few quick breaths before reaching up towards my helmet and activating my comms. "Summer, you and your team secure the perimeter while we hold out the rest. As soon as Cayde gets out of the building, I want you to tell Team RWBY and Ryker to be outside and wait for him. I'll take care of the big one."

Before I could hear them retaliate, I quickly turned off the connection before being jumped by a Taken grunt as I quickly holstered a knife and stab it repeatedly in its face. Once I stood up, I saw the entire complex start to evacuate and had deployed troops to take us out. Right beside me, I spotted a Sentinel APC making its way towards me whilst the Ogre slowly walked behind my cover. A plan formulated in my head as I waited in anticipation for the APC's cannon to point towards me.

I shot at the vehicle once to gain their attention until the cannon pointed at me, shooting out a big round of explosive. In the same moment, the Ogre came into view as It bent down to look at me, only to get blasted forward by the explosion from the APC. I quickly got out of the building as it started to shake and collapse due to the Ogre's impact.

A squadron of Sentinel soldiers started shooting at me while I was running in between destroyed buildings and a few Taken snipers. I took a quick glance behind me as I saw the Ogre turn around and shoot out a beam towards the vehicle causing it to get destroyed in a matter of seconds along with the nearby mercenaries.

I managed to enter an apartment complex as I was running only to bump into a duo of Taken Phalanx approaching across the hallway. Quickly hiding a nearby cover by one of the rooms my comms were being notified.

Ryker spoke out through my headset as I shook off the thought in how he managed to contact me even though I turned off my connection with them. "Yeah yeah I hear ya, how's it looking over there? Did you manage to find Cayde yet?" I replied back as I nonchalantly toss a incendiary grenade across the hallway.

~~Yes, he said we'll be meeting him at the back exit of the compound. The girls are still with me and are making our way there now. The others are-~~

He gets cut off as I tried contacting him over and over again. Slightly angered, I holstered Rose before storming out of the room to face the Phalanx's head on whilst they were still burning from the grenade. I leaped in the air stepping in between the walls to dodge their bullets, before taking out my sword and ending them in a quick slash.
