The pair set off towards the thick forest, and (Y/N) was terrified. She hadn't faced a demon in 2 years- since she was 13 years old- so she didn't know what to expect. Inosuke jogged right beside her, his swords already clutched in his hands. The sun was beginning to set, so any minute now they would be facing the blood thirsty beasts.
"Have you ever fought a demon before?" She asks with a shaky voice, causing Inosuke to scoff.
"I've fought more demons that I can count on two whole hands" He boasts, and she rolls her eyes. At least he had some sort of experience, that put her mind at ease slightly. All the participants they saw before had broke away to do their own thing, completely alone. (Y/N) reaches her shaking hand to her side and pulls out her katana, ready to attack if needs be. It wasn't the best sword in the world, but Mitsuri insisted that it would serve her well. And it looked a damn sight lot better than Inosuke's chipped swords.
Her bag jolted up and down as they ran, but thankfully it was fastened tight. They reach a clearing in the forest with multiple winding paths, and the girl stops to face Inosuke.
"What direction are we going?" She asks, causing Inosuke to cackle. He sprints straight past her, now taking the lead, down a pathway that wound deeper into the forest.
"Keep up, dumbass!" He screeches and she groans as she sprints after him. Luckily she had chose to wear a kimono so she had more leg room- meaning she was able to run a lot faster. She caught sight of Inosuke stood still in front of her, his swords waving in the air to taunt her. Little did he know, there was something creeping up behind him. It's red eyes illuminated in the darkness, and (Y/N) felt her blood run cold. She sprinted straight past Inosuke, and unleashed an attack before it could injure him.
"Love Breathing second form: Love pangs!" She exclaims, twisting her body and slicing her blade straight through the demons neck. The wind blew through her now lose h/c hair as she landed gently on the floor. The demon collapsed next to Inosuke with a thud, and turned completely to dust.
Inosuke felt a pang in his stomach as he watched the girl stumble back to her feet, a determined and concerned look on her face.
"Are you okay?" She asks, rushing next to him and checking him for any injuries. He grunts in reply and moves his head away from hers, secretly pouting. He wanted to show off his skills to her, yet she came along and stole the spotlight.
"I'm fine, dumbass. I could have killed that demon quicker than you" He mumbles and she scoffs, giving him a slap on top of his mask. The wind had started to pick up slightly due to how high up on the mountain they were, and (Y/N) turned her head to scan the surroundings. All there was were trees, and more trees, and even more trees. The earth below them crunched as they walked onward, and (Y/N) felt herself growing tired.
"We should stop and rest for the night" She yawns and she tucks her katana back into it's holster. She knew how dangerous it would be to stop, but there must be some tucked away place- and she also has Inosuke to keep an eye out.
"I'm not tired, dumbass" He spits, paying more attention to his surroundings- he seemed pretty desperate to kill something. (Y/N) sticks her tongue out at him as they walk.
"Well I am, my legs burn" She whines, pulling her kimono tighter around her body. Inosuke seems to falter for a second, and he grumbles. Turning around, he starts patting his bare back. She looks at him with her eyebrows furrowed, confused as to what he was doing. Was this to assert his dominance, or something stupid only boar people do.
"Get on then, weakling" He says as if what he was doing was obvious, and it suddenly all clicks in her head. He was...going to give her a piggyback. She takes a deep breath and begrudgingly gets onto his back, squeaking as he adjusts his grip.
"You're so heavy, dumbass" He chuckles, causing her to slap him on the shoulder.
"DON'T BE FUCKING RUDE!" She yells and she moves to get more comfortable. She was already tired, but the heat his skin emitted caused her eyes to want to close even more. She wraps her arms around his shoulders, and she finds herself drifting off to sleep. All she could hear as she fell into slumber was the crunching of leaves beneath Inosuke's feet.
(Y/N) awakens with a start as she's dropped gently onto the floor, and 'oof' leaving her lips. Inosuke cackles causing (Y/N) to pout.
"Why did you drop me? That's so rude" She hisses, and she gets back up onto her feet. Inosuke turns around and points a finger at her, almost teasing her.
"You've been asleep for like 4 hours, and it's your fault for being heavy dumbass" He teases and she dusts herself up. It was still dark out but it shouldn't be long before the sun started to rise. In all honestly she was still shocked after saving Inosuke from getting injured- she wasn't expecting Mitsuri's breathing style to work so well. Screams sounded in the background causing her to jump slightly.
"We've gotta go help them" (Y/N) blurts out and grabs Inosukes toned arm, and she breaks into a sprint. She hears him complaining behind her, but she doesn't care- these people could be in serious trouble. Letting go of Inosuke's arm she loosens her sprint up slightly and she turns, reaching the brush of bushes where she heard the screaming. She breaks into the clearing, and sees the same yellow boy from before grovelling on the ground. He's got two demons hot on his tail, and (Y/N) skids to a stop.
"Lord Inosuke, you take one demon i'll take the other" She hisses before speeding off. He nods, and jumps towards one of the demons.
"Hey! Follow me!" She screams at one of the demons, succeeding in catching it's at catching it's attention. It snaps it's head towards her and begins to grin- and (Y/N) picks up her pace. She jumps from tree to tree trying her absolute hardest to lead the demon as far as way as possible. Once she is satisfied with the distance she created she lunges at the demon, barely missing it and rolling onto the forest floor.
"Shit" She hisses to herself, her blade shaking in her lithe hands. She had just missed the opening, if she waited a second longer she would have killed the damn thing. The demon lands on the floor next to her, a gurgled chuckle leaving it's bloodied mouth.
"Ah! You must be my next meal! I must say, you look a lot tastier than that wimp back there" The demon giggles, and it lunges towards her. She flips backwards to avoid the attack, but it's claws clip her left arm. She gasps in pain and loses grip on her sword, and a foot to the ribs sends her flying. Her back collides with the thick trunk of the tree- leaving her breathless. Twigs and leaves fall down onto her head as she gasps for breath, feeling the taste of iron in her mouth. She hears the demon chuckling as she reaches for her now quite busted sword. As soon as her fingertips brush the woven handle, the demon kicks it away from her harshly.
"Who's going to save you now, little girl? Don't worry I'll try make your death as painless as possible" The demon says sadistically as it begins crouching down to her level. She tries her best to open her eyes but blotches cover her field of view. She reaches out a shaky hand, before completely collapsing.
"DON'T TOUCH HER!" She hears a familiar voice scream as she coughs up blood, and she succumbs to the pain in her head.
