The following days had been totally uneventful. Aiden still refused to acknowledge me. As far as he was concerned, we had probably never met. I tried not to pay too much attention to it. He didn't seem to care, so why should I? Especially when he could be a potential threat.
It was Wednesday, yet Gram hadn't called or left a message. To say I wasn't fighting the urge to file a missing persons report would be a lie. The only thing keeping me assured was she'd told me she would be very busy on this trip, but I missed her a lot.
As soon as the last bell rang, I packed my things and made my way to the lot. Laurel was already waiting outside with Sebastian.
"Hey Alexa," Laurel greeted as I approached them. Sebastian had his hand around her waist, and she was cuddled up close to him.
"You ready yet?" I fished out my car keys, opened the car, and dumped my things in the back.
"Yeah." she gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and said goodbye.
"Now tell me what's wrong," she asked as she fixed her seat belt. I fastened mine and put the car in motion.
"What do you mean? Nothing's wrong, I'm perfectly fine."
She rolled her eyes at me "Oh come on, Alexa, I know that look. You've been like that since Monday."
I wondered whether or not to tell her about what I saw in the lot during lunch...
"I'm just a little creeped out, Aiden is in almost all my classes." I did sound weird, and I knew what Laurel was, thinking why would that bother me so much? But how could I tell her that what really got to me was the vibe he put off. There was something off about him, and what made it worse was our lack of communication or any involvement whatsoever. How could I feel so dusturbed by someone who showed no interest in me or anyone for that matter.
In the past two days, I hadn't seen him talking to or hanging out with anyone. Maybe he was just a psycho loner. That would explain the creeps I got when I saw him. And there was always the possibility that I was the creep obsessing over him.
I sighed, facing Laurel. "It's not a big deal, I just got... it was just a little strange, that's all." I ended with a light chuckle.
"You sure that's all?" The doubt in her voice was evident.
"Yes, I am. So how was your day?"
I was ready to talk about anything but me. Laurel spoke the whole drive home, and she seemed more relaxed. I replied and smiled to show her I was listening.
"You never did tell me... how did things go with Adrian?" she asked when she was done with her story
"Ugh, don't ask," she laughed
"That bad?"
"No, I just wasn't interested," I replied, pulling into my driveway
"Alexa, you are never interested." I laughed, rolling my eyes at her
"Are you staying?"
"I can't, I've got a ton of homework," I sighed, I really wanted some company. "Okay, bye."
I texted grams when I got in, hoping she'd reply and say she would be coming back soon. I did my homework and ordered take outs for dinner. I had no interest in cooking for just myself.
Later that evening, when my phone rang, I ran to it, hoping it would be grandma. But it was Laurel. She'd just called to check up on me, and I told her I was fine.
I was disappointed and very worried she left almost a week ago, yet no phone calls, no messages from her. Like other nights, I went to bed not because I was tired but because sleep was my only escape from the real world.
