AMY'S ALARM CLOCK blared as groaned into the pillow. She reluctantly opened her eyes and stared disgustingly at the bright red numbers on her digital alarm as if it was mocking her.

seven o'clock.

She usually wouldn't have any trouble waking up but today she just felt drained. She didn't know but she felt like today was just different. A bad kind of different.

She felt Jake stirred behind her as she looked over at her sleepy husband she oh so adored. He opened his baby brown eyes slowly, taking in the light.

"Morning sleepy," she said to him, her voice laced with sleepiness.

"Morning Ames," he smiled cheekily as she pecked his nose.

Jake started getting up from bed and Amy immediately felt the coldness touched her skin, giving her goosebumps. She would often forgot how cold the bed would become if her husband wasn't next to her.

She watched with a small smile as he took his clothes from their wardrobe and made his way into the bathroom, shutting the door behind him.

After a minute of laying in bed, she decided to get up and make some much needed coffee for the both of them. Once she finished brewing them, she took the mugs to their room and sat on their messy bed, reading through today's crossword puzzle.

She was startled when a ring rippled through the air. She looked up to see Jake's phone vibrating wildly on a desk. She walked up and looked at the caller ID.

It was marked unknown.

Confused, she called out to him, "Hey Jake! Someone's calling you."

"Mind picking it up for me?" he shouted back.

"Alright." Amy took his phone off the desk and swiped up on answer.

"Hello?"

"Hello is this Mr Peralta?" the voice from the other end of the line filled her ears. It sounded like a lady.

"No but this is his wife," Amy responded, "Sorry who's calling?"

"We're from the Brooklyn hospital," the lady answered, "We have some devastating news."

"What's the matter?" Amy asked, getting a worried chill up her spine.

"I'm afraid Mrs Peralta got into a car accident earlier today," the lady started.

Amy gasped, "Karen? Karen Peralta?"

"Yes that is her name."

"Is everything alright?" Amy asked, concern laced her tone, "Is she okay?"
