"So when Is she coming to stay?" I stuck a piece of bacon in my mouth.
"I think Friday. We want to be together for when it's time for the baby to come. So I can be there with her every step of the way. Our house is closer to the hospital also so." Jeremiah said bringing a spoonful of whatever cereal he was eating to his mouth. We were in the kitchen having a conversation about Kayla. She was going to stay here for a few days starting friday to get ready for the delivery of the baby. I was definitely exited. My niece is going to be born into the world.
"Aw look who sounds like he actually decided to mature." I teased him.
"Bout time" my mom came walking down stairs in a robe, arms crossed.
"Helena please receive your daughter, she's aggy" Jere refered to my mom by her first name.
"Speaking of my daughter, I'm surprised you're here and not at the hospital with Melo." She said nonchalantly looking in the fridge. My eyes immediately shot open.
"HOSPITAL?!"
"Yeah Lavar just called me, we were talking. He said that him and Tina were at the hospital for Melo. I didn't really ask why so I can't tell you why, but they sounded calm. I'm sure it's nothing serious.." My mom tried to ease my nerves but it only made me more nervous.
I got up from where I was sitting and grabbed my things. I was literally in black sweats and a tank top with slippers but I didn't give one fuck. When I grabbed the car keys Jere interjected.
"Nah I'm boutta take the car, you're gonna have to get a ride"
"Just. Drive. Me. THERE." I gritted.
He stuck his arms up in surrender slipping out of his seat and grabbed the keys.
"See y'all!" My mom called out to us as we walked out the door.

The whole way there my heart was beating out of my chest. What could Melo have possibly done? He has made questionable decisions plenty of times. Did he jump out of a golf cart again? Did he trip and fall breaking all his limbs? Did he go to some random junkie Cali party and overdose on hardcore drugs? I was about to find out now because we were pulling up to the hospital entrance.
"Alright I gotta slide, can you get a ride back?"
"Yeah I'll call Jess or something" I got out the car and walked to the entrance. I hated hospitals, they made me so nervous. The distinct smell they had, the thought of how many people might have died here. The bright gleaming lights. Everything freaked me out about hospitals. I shook off my chills and walked to the front desk.
"Excuse me" I said nervously tapping on the reception desk.
"Yes, how may I help you?" The receptionist smiled at me. I don't know how she's smiling right now. She wasn't even fazed by my outfit, which was killing me by the way. Being seen in public like this equals pain for me. I guess it was normal to see people in just about anything at a hospital though.
"Um yeah I'm looking for a LaMelo Ball that checked in today." I continued to tap.
"Name please?"
"Xia."
"Oh Mr. and Mrs. Ball said you might come. Right Wing room 4B. She wrote my name on a visitors pass and handed it to me. Surprisingly she spelled it right. As I was walking to the room I peeled the sticker back and then stuck it on the left side of my tank top. I was smoothing it down when I accidentally collided with someone else walking the opposite way.
