I awake to the sound of somebody knocking at the door. I pry myself out of Peeta's grasp and make my way to the door. When I open the door I see faces I never thought I would see again.
Haymitch and Effie Abernathy.
"Hello sweetheart" says Haymitch
I jump into an embrace.
"And Effie! It's so good to see you!" Effie hasn't changed a bit. Tons of makeup and a colorful wig. Today it's a periwinkle color with butterflies.
"Peeta!" I scream. He comes rushing to the door with a worried expression.
"Katniss! You scared me!" He says "Haymitch? Effie?"
"Good to see you too, lover boy" says Haymitch. Effie gently whacks Haymitch in the arm and says "manners Haymitch"
Both Peeta and I let out a chuckle
"Mom" says Rye "Who is this?"
"Haymitch and Effie Abernathy" I say
"Do we know them?" says Willow
"No, probably not" says Peeta "What brings you back to twelve?"
"Wait, back to twelve, as in they've lived here before" says a very confused Rye
"Yes," says Effie. "We used to be your parents..."
Oh no. I think. she's going to tell them.
"Neighbors" Peeta butts in before she goes to far
"Yeah, neighbors" Haymitch says with that sarcastic look on his face. "Here take this" He shoves a note into my hands.
"Whats this?" I say
"Just read the stupid letter" Effie gives him a death glare
'We are pleased to inform you that your family, the Mellark family, has been chosen for the excursion. You will not receive any information until your arrival. You will not need to pack anything, for it will all be provided. Please leave with your escorts at this time. Thank you, Caesar Flickerman Jr'
"Peeta, look at this" I say as I hand him the note. The kids are leaning over his shoulder to read the letter. Instantly their faces brighten up.
"YAYYYYYYY" screams Rye.
"Oh look at the time" says Effie "We are on a strict schedule everyone"
At this I start dying laughing
"Manners, girl on fire" says Haymitch trying to imitate Effie. Effie rolls her eyes
"Wait, mom why did he call you 'girl on fire'" says Rye
"It's an old nickname" I say quickly. Haymitch just chuckles.
"Can we just leave already" says Willow
"Thank you" says Effie in an annoyed tone.
As the rest of my family leaves the house, I grab Haymitch's sleeve
"Do you know where we're going?" I say in a hushed tone.
"I wish I did" is all he says before he walks away.
