Chapter 8

The time flew by and very soon it was only a couple days until Halloween, that of course meant it was almost Yvette's birthday.

Yvette was having a lovely sleep until someone woke her up. She was actually getting a decent amount of sleep that evening, no nightmares. then of course someone opening her trunk and banging around woke her up. "Who the frick is that?" Yvette asked groggily sitting up. "Me," Clarissa said, Yvette would recognise that voice anywhere. "It's legit 3am," Yvette groaned, even she was asleep at this time. "Sorry, but I couldn't sleep and I already finished all the books i packed so I needed to borrow one of yours," Clarissa protested. "Why can't you sleep?" Yvette asked, maybe Clarissa could relate to her, by that she meant a psychotic dad who plagued your sleep. "Uh, I'm a bit homesick," Clarissa murmured quietly so Yvette could barely hear her. "Oh that sucks," Yvette said turning over  and trying to get back to sleep. Clarissa kept rummaging through her trunk. "My god, where did you get a book on animagi, they're such a fascinating subject!" Clarissa said pulling out Yvette's Animagus: a guide book out from the bottom of Yvette's trunk. "Hermione got it from who knows where," Yvette said. "Can I borrow it, the idea of becoming an animagus is amazing to me," Clarissa asked. "Sure, lets look at it together," Yvette said, there was no way she would get back to sleep now, might as well.

"Okay page 10, steps of becoming an animagus,"

Step 1: Do your homework in Transfiguration and Potions at least. Becoming an Animagus requires a witch or wizard to be skilled in both these areas in order to stand a chance of achieving such a complex transformation.

Step 2: Carry a single Mandrake leaf in your mouth for an entire month – from full moon to full moon to be precise. Yes, we're serious. If you swallow the leaf or remove it from your mouth at any point, you have to start the whole thing again (no-one likes to see that happen). You then have to find a 'small crystal phial that receives the pure rays of the moon', put your saliva-filled leaf inside, and add one of your own hairs.

Step 3: Add a silver teaspoon of dew from a place that neither sunlight nor human feet have touched for a full seven days. And if that wasn't hard enough, you then have to add the chrysalis of a Death's-head Hawk Moth to the crystal phial as well. Then put 'this mixture in a quiet, dark place' and leave it alone until the next electrical storm. And really leave it alone – don't even look at it. Don't even think about looking at it.

Step 4: While waiting for the storm, you must place your wand tip over your heart every sunrise and sundown and speak the following incantation: 'Amato Animo Animato Animagus'. If you keep repeating your incantation, 'there will come a time when, with the touch of the wand-tip to the chest, a second heartbeat may be sensed.' Don't change anything! Keep going. Keep waiting for that storm!

Step 5: As soon as lightning appears in the sky, go to the place where you've hidden your crystal phial. At last! If you've done everything right then you will 'discover a mouthful of blood-red potion inside it.' Then move somewhere where you aren't going to alarm anyone or place yourself in physical danger during your transformation. An Animagus transformation party is definitely a bad idea.

Step 6: Place your wand-tip against your heart and speak the incantation 'Amato Animo Animato Animagus' and drink the potion. You will then feel fiery pain – lucky you – and an intense double heartbeat.

Step 7: The shape of the creature into which you will shortly transform will appear in your mind. The instructions then warn: 'You must show no fear/ It is too late now, to escape the change you have willed'. Yikes!

Step 8: When your transformation is complete you are strongly advised to pick up your wandand hide it somewhere safe, so you can find it post-transformation. To return to human form, visualise your human self as clearly as you can. Don't worry if you don't change back immediately, 'with practice, you will be able to slip in and out of your animal form at will, simply by visualising the creature'. Once you're an advanced Animagus, you should be able to transform without your wand.

"Wow, steps are intense," Yvette said. "I'm sure we can do it!"Clarissa said. "Okay, so first we need to nick a couple mandrake leaves," Yvette said getting up. They immediately headed towards the greenhouses.

"Alohamora," Clarissa whispered. The lock clicked open and they slipped inside. "Which one is a mandrake?" Yvette asked. "Were you not paying attention in Herbology?" Clarissa said moving towards the mandrakes. "Nope" Yvette said. Clarissa shook her head,"These aren't fully grown mandrakes, but I'm sure the leaves will be just the same," Yvette then started picking a couple each time a leave was removed the mandrake made a wail. after the fifth one they heard "Students out of bed, and in the greenhouse!" Clarissa looked Yvette in the eye, and they both sprinted out the green house and into the castle. Soon they reached the fat lady breathing heavily and slipped inside. "That was close," Clarissa said sighing. "Yup," Yvette replied. "Okay the full moon is in a couple days, also known as on your birthday," Clarissa said referring to the book for reference. "Happy birthday to me," Yvette said. The two girls walked up to their dorm, they both had an idea and they were going to do it.

"So Clarissa, what is a small crystal phial that receives the pure rays of the moon?" Yvette asked. "Um, I don't know," Clarissa replied, she was looking through her case for something. "Ah ha!  My advanced potions book, maybe it will have something in here!" She said obviously excited. "Well, lets look in the morning it's almost 4am now," Yvette said jumping into bed (apparently you could still complete nightly wanderings in pjs).  "Okay, in the morning we'll look into it and I'll try to find a charm to keep the mandrake leaf in our mouths," Clarissa said before getting into bed herself. Clarissa almost immediately fell asleep but Yvette lay awake, unable to sleep, how exciting this was they were going to become animagi!!

okay okay I'm aware like 90 percent of this chapter is steps to become an animagi but i mean i recommend you read them cause i will be using them till like the end of this book so you will want to know them, but this is basically the side plot of this story, next chapter will be Yvette's birthday and some chamber of secrets stuff(cause Mrs Norris gets petrified on halloween I was so smart to put Yvette's birthday on Halloween legit everything happens on that day XD), so hope you enjoyed <33
