the start of recovery

Athena's pov
The next day when I wake up I see Jay sitting in the room.
"Jay will I be able to see Dakota today" "I don't know Athena I can ask my brother if you like." "yes please"

"can I ask you some questions when ms rose comes back" he asks as he pulls out his phone. "I dont need ms rose to answer questions" so he starts asking questions after he texts someone.
After all the questions about if there was someone who would want to hurt my family or if I know why my friends were shot dr Halsted walks in.

"So Athena your healing quickly at this rate you should be released in about two days" "thats good news. Can you tell me what is going on with Dakota Johnson" "well Dakota is doing good so far but he is in a coma we don't know when he will wake up"

hearing that he is doing good gives me hope that he will make it. I just wish none of this would have happened.

"Jay" "yeah" "is this all my fault I feel like it is" "no none of this is your fault there is nothing you could have done to stop this" "why am I the one who survived my friends and family are dead the guy who I think is my boyfriend could still die and here I am with only a shot in the leg still living"

after I said that Jay comes over to me and gives me a hug. No mater how hard I try not to I start crying in his arms. About 5 minutes later ms rose walks in.
"Detective Halsted what did you do why is she crying" ms rose starts yelling at Jay and saying he needs to leave.
She yells for security but when they arrive they see Jay in the room and leave. "Ms rose can you leave" I asked but she continued yelling at Jay. "Ms rose leave I don't want you here Jay was making sure I was ok he's not why im upset and right now your making me upset" I said to her and finally she left.
Right after dr Halsted came in and gave me permission to go see Dakota but Jay would have to come with me. Jay helps me out of bed after his brother disconnects everything. Jay helps me walk as we follow his brother to Dakota's room.
When we enter Dakotas room I start to cry again Jay helps me to his bed side then goes to stand against the wall. "Detka please wake up please dont leave me" after sitting next to Dakota for awhile I fell asleep.
3 hours later
When I wake up nothing really changed but Jay moved to sit down. Just then dr Halsted walked in.
"I see your awake Athena how are you feeling" "im feeling better than earlier seeing Dakota made me calm down quite a bit" "if you want because you dont really need to be hooked up to machines you can stay in here" "yes please I would like that"
just then Jay gets a call and steps out of the room. The doctor and I talk for a little longer till Jay comes back in the room.
"Athena ms rose would like to come speak with you" "alright she can come in here" about 10 minutes later ms rose comes into the room.
"Can we speak somewhere private Athena" "no" I refuse to leave Dakota and I feel more comfortable with Jay in the room.
"Can you leave then detective" "no I want him to stay" ms rose is really annoying. "Ok then I just need some information about you and a photo for your adoption papers" "fine"
for the next 45 minutes I answer all of her questions then she starts talking about foster homes and orphanages for me to stay in.
"Ms rose can you leave for like 10 minutes please" I ask because I want to talk with Jay about something. "Fine 10 minutes" with that she leaves.
"Jay would I be able to stay with you" "im fine with it but you would have to come to work with me or stay here with Dakota and my brother" "thats fine I just dont want to stay with strangers and I feel comfortable with you around"
we discuss some more then ms rose comes back in. "Ms rose I would like to stay with Jay"
I tell her. I really hope she lets me. "Fine you can stay with him but there will be monthly check in's" with that she leaves.
"Hey Athena do you want anything to eat my partner is gonna stop by for a little bit" "can I have some McDonald's if its not a problem" "yeah thats perfectly fine." after awhile of sitting there I remember my phone.
"Hey Jay do you know what happened to my phone" "I actually have it I charged it for you" Jay says as he pulls out my phone.
Since I have no one to text I just play games on my phone. After about 30 minutes a woman walks in with a bag of McDonald's. That must be Jays partner. I wonder if there together. "Hey Athena this is my partner Erin Lindsay" "hi Erin" "hey Athena. Whose this next to you" "this is my friend Dakota hes in a coma after what happened yesterday"
Erin passes around the food and we all sit and talk. "So Athena Jay tells me your gonna be living with us for awhile" "if thats ok with you I dont want to intrude" "im perfectly fine with it did Jay explain to you whats gonna go on while were at work" "yes. Thank you both for Everything your doing for me."
we all continue to talk and Jay and Erin give me there numbers. After that I fall asleep again.
