Chapter 2

Shinichi's POV

I'm getting furious towards the end of the day. Haibara's clearly avoiding me. This never happened before. Hiding something from me is acceptable, but avoiding me? She refuses all my help and lock herself again inside that damn room. It ruined my mood that I chose not to go home to mouri's detective agency.

"Shin-chan?"

Not very long ago, my mom and dad decided to move back to Japan because the situation is getting steamy with the Black Organization. So when I entered Kudo Mansion with annoyed stomp, my mom couldn't help but wonder.

"Is something the matter?", she continues her nag.

"That stupid yawny girl. I know something's been bothering her. And yet... Arrghhh! So annoying", I shout in frustration while messing with my hair.

"You mean that Haibara girl? Aaahhh.. so you're having a love quarrel with her? Well.. well.. As expected from Yukiko's only son, you're so popular among the girls". There she goes again, admiring herself over everything. That's my mom for you.

"What kind of love quarrel is it if she doesn't bother to tell me anything." Seriously, this conversation is going nowhere. I'd better go to the library to clear my mind.

"Wait, Shin-chan, what brings you here anyway? Are you staying for the night?"

"Yeah.. I supposed so.. She ruined my mood after all, I don't wanna go back to see Ran at this state. I'm gonna make a call to them later. Right now, all I need is a good book".

Ai's POV

*Sigh*

This is more complicated than I thought. I need a good sleep right now. Kudo-kun has gone home to detective agency. He remained silent and not even said goodbye. Well, it hurts me somehow. But, right now, it doesn't matter as long as i can put everything back in place. It's the least that I can do.

"Ai-kun, what happened with you and Shinichi back then? He looked unpleasant or should I say he looked furious?", Professor Agasa's asking me after a long time in silence.

"Hmm.. I didn't recall anything important. He's just being whatever he wants as always. I don't understand about the bad attitude, anyway. I'm going to sleep a little, if you don't mind. I'm feeling a little tired". I'm running away again. I'm sorry, professor, I'm just not in a condition to deal with little details right now.

"O-Okay then, goodnight Ai-kun. I guess the antidote making is consuming more of your energy than usual, so please rest much"

"I will."

Ran's POV

"Dad, Conan-kun called just now and he said he would stay at Professor's house."

"Yeah.. yeah.. Leave him alone."

It's been a week since Shinichi's last call. Should I call him tonight? Since we're already a couple, it's okay to call more often right?

...

But, what should I talk to him about? Geez, it's easier to call him when we're not a couple. Whatever, I just call him after all.

"Shinichi?" My heart suddenly beats uncontrollably when he picks up the phone.

"Y-Yeah, Ran. How do you do? I mean, you're good of course. So, what is it?"

"Umm.. nothing much. I just feel like calling you. Is that okay?" Okay, this is awkward.

"Sure. Of course."

Oh how I want to jump around. I'm happy and yet this awkwardness is killing me.

"So, what are you doing right now?"

"Um, I just rereading a good part of Sherlock's cases. Helps me soothe my mind" His voice sounds tired and irritated. Was it because I call him that he became irritated?

"Oh I see. Do you have a rough day? You sound tired, shinichi"

"Nah... It's just that a certain someone's getting on my nerves today. Well, I feel a lot better now thanks to this wonderful books", by him saying that I feel a little jealous with his hobby. Hmmph, shinichi you deduction freak.

"Well, should I cut off the call so you can go back to your lovely Holmes dear Detective?" I can't help but feeling annoyed. Stupid shinichi.

"Hey, wait, Ran! I didn't mean to say that. Really, I'm sorry. Today is just, my mood is ruined at my work because she won't spill anything to me. So I can't help but getting annoyed, considering that I'm her partner so why can't she just let go of her fears of whatever the hell it is and speak to me... And.."

Partner? It's a she? Well, this is the first time I heard about these partnership things. And Shinichi keeps blabbering out about this certain partner, clearly showing how much he gets irritated because she didn't tell him about something.

"Oh.. I see", I answered after the long story of a pouting detective. "So, I haven't heard about this partner of yours. Is it a woman?" I can't help but asking.

"Ah.. right, it's true, I haven't told you about her yet. Yes, she is a scientist that works together with me. I solved many cases with her help, so we made a great partner" His careless explanation made my heart at ease a little. So, they're just partner at work. Of course a scientist would help him alot. It's a mutual work partnership, it's a professional matter. I shouldn't have think much. How silly I am.

"That's good for you, shinichi, at least there's someone beside you and make sure you're safe in every situation" I sincerely think that. At least, he got all the helps he needs, even though it's not from me. I will stay here and patiently wait for his return.

"Yeah, kind of.. That's why, partners should trust each other right?" I caught a sad tone in that words. Shinichi is so kind, after all.

"Hey shinichi, what's her name by the way? Next time when I sent you a gift, I could sent something for her also. And I wish I could meet her someday"

"Of course you would. Her name is Haib.. I mean, Miyano. Miyano Shiho."

"That's a pretty name, shinichi. So she's also a Japanese" I really can't wait to give her something lovely. And I wonder what does she like, maybe she's a type similar to Kazuha-chan? But a scientist usually quiet. Well maybe she's a little more like Ai-chan?

"Yes, she's half Japanese. But Ran, can you do me a favor not to spill her name to anyone? You know.. the cases we currently work on right now is a bit complicated and dangerous.. so, it's for her safety. Can you do that?"

Again, I feel some unpleasant tightness in my heart.

"Oh, of course I can do that. So you're really working on dangerous cases. Be careful, would you, shinichi?"

"I will. Okay Ran, I'll call you later?"

"Oke, bye, shinichi" I love you, I wish I could say that easily. Well, I could just write it in a letter.
