Chapter 17

Shinichi's POV

"Haibara is in a bad situation right now, you guys shouldn't come. She needed all the sleep she could had."

"But we could just see her quietly, Conan-kun. We could keep our voices down."

"Won't do. Haibara is a vigilant type of person. She would stay alert even on her sleep. Any noise will keep her awake."

"But how come only you can go there, Conan?"

"Because I could stay quite, unlike you kids."

The detective boys keep pestering me with their intention to see Haibara. I can't just let them in, Haibara is already close to dead as she can be. Having the kids around would make her restless again.

"It's okay, guys. If Conan-kun said we shouldn't, then we just can't do that. Right, Conan-kun?"

Thank you, Ayumi, you're being the only one reasonable here.

"Alright guys, see you tomorrow."

I finally able to free myself from them. Speaking of which, I need to buy her some cake. She would love to have some blueberry cheesecake, wouldn't she? That much bleeding would cause her a nausea and losing her appetite. So here I am, bringing home a whole portion of cheesecake, along with a white coloured puppy doll as a giveaway present for whole portion buyer. Lucky, ain't I?

"I'm back."

"Welcome back, Shinichi. Look who came."

"Huh?"

It's the kids. Geez... I'm being fooled back then.

"Ah, Conan-kun, you brought a doll." Ayumi spotted the puppy I brought along with the cheesecake.

"Ah, it's just a giveaway from the cake shop," I grinned.

"You bought a cake?" Here we have Genta-kun, alright.

"I'm sorry guys, Haibara just barely eat nothing these days, so this one's for her. Let's eat together next time, okay?"

"Okaaaay" they replied simultaneously.

"And now, what are you guys doing here? I told you back in school not to come for the moment."

"It's alright, shi- Conan-kun. Ai-kun's sleeping soundly. She stayed asleep even when the kids take their peek into her room earlier."

"I see, I'll go check on her. You guys stay here."

Agasa's right about Haibara being asleep soundly. Her face is gaining its colour back. I put the puppy doll beside her shoulder, and give a little stroke on her cheek. She's not sweating anymore and her body temperature is normal.

"I wouldn't let you take the next stage before me, okay?", I whispered. I hold her hand gently for a few moments before getting out of the room.

To my surprise, I bumped into Ayumi in front of the bedroom door.

"Ayumi?"

"I'm sorry Conan-kun, I just followed you here to see Ai-chan. But looks like she's still sleeping."

"Yeah, she is. Let's get back to the living room."

The kids were just as noisy as ever. They've been fighting over the games for hours. This is why I told them not to come. But looks like Haibara haven't been bothered by these noise yet. I'll check her again later, better safe than sorry.

"Conan-kun.."

Ayumi's approaching me with a doubtful expression.

"Can I ask you something?"
