I am not ready, I said.
I don't even know how to tie my hair! I thought for a while how wonderful it would be if I just get one more chance to dive into my beautiful ocean of childhood.
Tomorrow is the big day - the day when I will start a new phase of my life. I have been waiting for this day to come for months. Getting accepted in Summer's Academy was a dream come true for me. Let me tell you why.
My parents, who are research scientists, graduated from that school. It is one of the best research institutes in the world. Special scholarship is offered to kids whose parents are obviously alumnis.
As a kid, I was fascinated with science, research and what my parents did. They never told me what they were working on so I needed to find out. Which made me clear their entrance exam last year and here I am.
My mom entered my room to check if my bags are packed. I would be taking a total of three suitcases with me.
God, how will I even carry them!
Two suitcases were lying next to my bed. Mom opened the red bag and placed two pairs of socks with a little effort before closing it.
Oh mom how will I manage to stay away from you even for a single day leave aside one year!
"Thought you might need them", she said with a satisfied look.
"Thanks mom", I said and looked back but she was already gone.
I looked at my watch. 8pm.
Another three hours to go, I thought.
I wanted to spend as much time with my mother as possible but how? She is always busy with her lab work.
I was now looking curiously at my cell-phone. Maybe I can chat with my best friend. I pondered upon the idea for a while but rejected it. My best friend is very emotional so we decided not to say goodbye.
I heard footsteps again as my mother entered the room and looked at me suspiciously.
"Clare what are you doing? Dinner is already set on the table downstairs so come down quickly", she said.
9pm the watch read.
"But mom don't you think it's a bit too early?" I demanded with a pleading voice which I often use when I want something desperately from someone.
"No dear, today I'm not going to listen to any of your excuses. You know very well the flight leaves tomorrow at 6am. So hurry up now and come downstairs", she said and left my room.
I rested my head on the table.
I am not yet grown up mom. I am just 16.
Downstairs I could hear a faint sound coming from the living room. The TV must be on and mom must be watching her favourite sci-fi show with dad, I decided and sat down to have dinner.
For the first time in my life I felt extremely hungry so I almost gobbled everything that I found delicious. After drinking water I entered the living room.
I have to talk.
"So how are you feeling?" my dad asked, looking up from the magazine that he was reading.
"Fine", I said. What else could I have said? Mom was already nodding off to sleep, her head on my dad's shoulder. And more than that I have already made up my mind to go to Paris (yeah that's where my school is) one year ago. The decision made them so happy! Now I definately cannot have second thoughts.
