I wrote this in literally fifteen minutes. Enjoy.
------------------Mattia blinked through his tears, trying to see his phone screen as he clicked Kairi's contact. It rang a few times before Kairi picked up, his cheerful voice making Mattia cry harder.
K: hello?
M: Kairi. Umm. Uh could you come over please?
K: sure. Is everything ok?
M: uhh. No?
There was a moment of silence over the phone before Kairi spoke again, this time his voice more serious.
K: I'll be there in ten. Is your window open?
M: mhm.
K: ok.
Mattia hung up before breaking down in tears again. He didn't even know why he called Kairi. He just didn't know what else to do.
It felt like hours had passed rather than minutes before Mattia heard his window slide open and suddenly Kairi was in front of him.
K: Mattia what happened.
Mattia sucked in a gasping breath but before he could tell Kairi anything, another sob racked his body. He shook his head before covering his face again.
Mattia was sitting on the floor beside his bed, his knees pulled to his chest when Kairi entered the room; he dropped his head down again as more sobs cut through the air.
Kairi could feel his heart breaking for his friend. He didn't know what had happened but Mattia rarely cried like this so it must have been bad.
Kairi sprang into action unfolding Mattia's arms so that he could embrace the tall boy. He noticed that Mattia's hands were shaking as he wrapped them around Kairi's waist.
K: it's ok. It's ok Mattia. Shhh.
Mattia clutched the front of Kairi's green hoodie as he continued to cry; pulling the smaller teen closer. Kairi rubbed Mattia's back slowly, using one hand to scratch his head and play with his hair in a way he knew would calm him down.
M: Kai-I-I can't-I don't-I-
K: it's ok Mattia. Just breath. You're hyperventilating. Just breath I'm here. I got you.
Mattia cried harder, burying his face into Kairi's sweater. Kairi continued his comforting words, shushing Mattia quietly and soothing him. After a long time, Mattia's sobs had finally quieted into sniffles and gasps but Kairi remained where he was, holding Mattia tightly and rubbing his back.
Kairi didn't ask what had happened. He didn't need to know. All he cared about was making Mattia better. He knew that Mattia would tell him when he was ready, or maybe he would never tell him. Either way, Kairi stayed and played with Mattia's hair as the tall boy soaked Kairi in tears. Almost an hour later, Mattia moved slightly. Kairi let him go, pulling away from the hug.
K: c'mon. Let's sit on the bed yeah?
Mattia nodded numbly as Kairi helped him to stand up. When Mattia was seated on the bed, Kairi stood between his legs and brought him back into the hug. Mattia wrapped his arms around Kairi's waist, holding him as tight as possible. Kairi laid his head on Mattia's soft hair as a fresh round of sobs filled the room.
M: I-I never w-want to lose you Kairi.
Kairi hugged him tighter, shushing Mattia as he half spoke, half sobbed into Kairi's sweater.
K: you won't lose me Mattia. Not ever. I'm here. I promise. No matter what, I'm always here. Always.
The two boys stayed in that position for nearly another hour as Mattia's sobs quieted again. When he finally looked up to Kairi, his appearance made Kairi want to cry.
He wiped Mattia's tears away with his thumbs, frowning at the dark circles under his red and puffy eyes.
K: c'mere.
Kairi layed Mattia back until he was lying down in the bed. Kairi ran to the bathroom and got a warm washcloth before climbing into the bed with Mattia. He gently wiped his friends face before throwing the washcloth into a laundry basket. Kairi then pulled Mattia close to him, practically spooning him as he continued to whisper quiet words of comfort in his ear and play with his hair.
Kairi watched as Mattia fell asleep; still hiccuping and sniffling softly. Ultimately deciding to text his mom that he was going to stay the night.
He needed to make sure that Mattia was going to be ok...............
