Kairi walked into the kitchen taking deep breaths.
I definitely shouldn't do this. I definitely really really shouldn't.
K: Robert. Can we talk?
Robert looked up from his phone, worry clouding his eyes instantly when he spotted Kairi nervously twisting his wedding band on his finger.
R: Of course, what's wrong?
Kairi tried to take another deep breath.
It's a prank, he'll forgive you. Probably.
I think we should take a break.
R: A break from what?
Kairi internally smiled at his husbands mild stupidity, however on the outside, he acted very well, frowning sadly at his husband.
K: A break from us. I don't want to be married to you anymore.
Robert's face ranged from disbelief to anger then to sadness.
R: Where is this coming from Kai? Did I do something?
K: No, I just can't do this anymore.
This was it, the impact:
Kairi slipped his wedding band off of his finger, placing it in Robert's hand. He had very rarely taken it off since the day it was gifted to him and he'd often told Robert that "he'd rather die than take it off for any reason"
R: No Kairi this is yours, I gave it to you three years ago remember? When we got married?
K: Yes, but now I'm giving it back Robert. I told you, I'm done.
Kairi took a step back and Robert leaned back on the counter, staring at the ring in his palm.
R: Kairi, if this is real then please tell me what I did wrong. But if this is a joke or something? then please stop. These are my emotions, my real feelings.
A little further Kairi, just push it a little further. He'll forgive you.
K: I just can't anymore. It's nothing you did.
R: Is there someone else?
Kairi stepped back.
K: No. How could you think of me like that?
R: Well fuck I don't know Kairi?! I never thought I'd see the day you took off your wedding ring but here we are so how am I supposed to know what's realistic and what's not?!
K: Don't yell at me!
Robert closed his hand around Kairi's wedding band. Tears falling down his cheeks.
R: That's it then? You're not going to say anything at all?
K: I'm sorry Robert, it's just how I feel.
Robert was silent for a few minutes, sniffling quietly as he continued to look at simple black ring on his palm; the one that perfectly matched his own.
R: Okay. If you'll let me stay here for like a week, then I can get all my stuff out. I'll sleep on the couch though obviously, I don't want you to be uncomfortable.
Kairi was slightly taken aback. He wanted a reaction but this is not the one he expected. His husband of three years still had copious amounts of tears streaming down his cheeks but he held eye contact with Kairi as he spoke.
