Chapter 10 - before you go - Genavieve Linkowski

Cancer, cancer, cancer, the word rang through my head non stop. Why the fuck did it have to be Berlin?! What the fuck did my dad and I do in the past life to deserve all this pain? I was shaken from my thoughts by Ace he looked at my with a knowing look. I smiled at him he sighed "thief I know what you're thinking, stop." he said I sighed knowing it was no use to lie to him he kissed my head and handed me my drink I thanked him and slowly sipped it. "Pix it will be fine they caught it early and she's going into treatment right away we will make it through this together" he said taking my hand I looked at it he held my hand from across the table he sighed "can I use your phone mines dead" he said. I nodded suspicious but not questioning him he went outside, which was even more suspicious. He was up to something the question was what was it? About fifteen minutes later he came back and handed me my phone back. I was going to look through it later but knowing him he wouldn't have left any traces of what he was doing on my phone, he knew I would be suspicious and look through it, but it was worth trying later just in case.

Ace and I walked along the mostly empty streets hand in hand not saying anything but still perfectly content. It was cold out the frosty air bitter against my skin early this morning I looked at my phone and saw it was only 6:43 am. Ace suddenly jumped as if he was a small child with an idea startling me in the process and I flinched in fright at his movements he didn't seem to notice "lets's go snowboarding!" he exclaimed excitedly I looked at him with a hesitant expression "I don't know Ace, what if something happens here and we're up there?" I asked "then we'll come if we get a call, it's not like we're going to brake our phones we aren't that bad" he said I looked at him still skeptical "I don't know Ace, you could go without me you would have a lot of fun" I said already knowing it was a stupid thing to say he wouldn't go without me but it was worth a shot, "oh come on you realize I haven't done it it years are you really going to stop me from doing something I love so much?" he asked I looked at him with a confused expression "I will never go without you, unless a situation calls for it and I'm going with the guys and we would be stuck on the bunny slope the whole day, I'd still probably drag you along so yeah whether we both go or none of us do" he said I groaned knowing he would guilt me into it if I didn't say yes now "fine lets go home so we can get our gear and get up there before the parking at the top is all gone" I said he grinned "what if I want to go on a run you don't want to?" I asked he looked at me "I go where you go" then looked like I had told him he won a million dollars when I just smiled and shook my head. Truth be told I was excited to go, considering I hadn't been this year and last year I only went once or twice, I would definitely be rusty and extremely sore tomorrow. But it would so be worth it.

I had taken my other car up because driving my other one was just plain stupidity when going to the mountain. Ace was in the passengers seat looking super excited when we found a good parking spot at the top of the mountain. The quad chair wasn't running yet telling me we were early and would have time to get ready and plenty of time to board before it got really crowded it also helped it was a Tuesday but teenagers would still be here ready to have fun with their friends and powder blast everyone they see hoping not to get too close to the karma that came with it. 

Conditions were nice it was sunny and only a few white fluffy clouds in the sky it was warm so I decided to only wear my hoodie, my coat would be overkill. Ace seemed to realize the same thing because he took off his coat and kept the hoodie instead I sat in the drivers seat and took off my shoes and put on my boarding boots, there was no way I would drive in these things not only was it dangerous but it was just plain annoying after I secured the boots and made sure I couldn't move my ankles I awkwardly walk slash waddled to the trunk to get the boards it was so weird walking in these it felt like I was going to fall on my face with every step it was also a lot more tiring to walk in them than normal shoes by the time you reach the slope you have to walk up it feels like you've run a marathon I had gotten us season passes because we would be coming back home with every possible time slot and Ace would make us come up here a lot. We got up to the lift and there was surprisingly no line the lift operator stood looking very bored "beautiful day isn't it?"  I asked putting my goggles up onto my helmet and pulling my mask down so it wasn't covering my face he smiled at me "that it is, I can't wait for my brake so I can go up there's a fresh 2 feat of powder up there and I don't want to miss it" he said I grinned Ace elbowed me "ha see aren't you glad you agreed you could have missed the fresh powder and warm sunshine" he said I chuckled "yeah yeah whatever" I said shoving him and looked back to the liftie "what time is it?" I asked there were a lot of people behind us in line and I was very hopeful it was almost time to open he glanced at his phone and waited to answer me 45 seconds later he did "time to start destroying the fresh powder" he said and started the lift.

 Ace and I waited for the chair to go by then stood at the line and two more people joined us staying on the other side of the bright orange string that came up from the ground signaling where the bar that separated the char was all four of us looked behind us the next chair approaching I put my arm out so that when it came I could grab onto the side the impact was familiar and it might cause bruising after hours of it but I missed it when we were up in the air Ace decided to be an asshole "hey you're actually tall enough to get on the chair by yourself" he cooed teasingly "hey you're actually smart enough to get on the chair and not lose my girlfriend" I sassed back he pouted his lip at me "it was one time and I was too busy focusing on not punching the guy to realize you had left me and by the time I got up to the top you were already back down" the two guys that were next to us laughed "wait what happened?" they asked they were a couple of teenage boys one with a board which I noticed they were a regular and the other had skis "okay so some random older man decided it would be hilarious to powder blast me when we were like 12 and our parents were somewhere I think they were on the backside, anyways he got way to close and hit me with his skis which left a bruise later which we wouldn't know until later but 12 year old Ace here was going to try and kick the guys ass but I told him no so he was so focused on not punching someone and I wanted to keep boarding so I left him" I explained we were all laughing by the time we got close to the top "yeah whatever she had just agreed to be my girlfriend after 12 years of friendship and someone hurt her what else was I supposed to do?" he asked I smiled at him "um not want to attack an old man" I said which made him laugh along with the two guys who's names we learned were Daniel and Dillon and they recently started dating and were in 12th grade we got off the lift still talking as we sat down in the snow to put on the other binding. 

"Where are you headed?" Daniel asked "Vallhalla" I said Ace looked at me "I haven't boarded in how many years and you're making me go on a black diamond?!" he asked flustered "well I am going to Vallhalla and like you said earlier and I quote ' I go where you go' paybacks a bitch baby" I said he looked at me "you set me up! You planned this" he accused I just smiled innocently "I love this girl!" Daniel exclaimed I high fived him "trees sound fun what do you think?" I said pretending to think about it he groaned "remind me why I love you again?" he asked I stood up kissed his cheek because he was still on the ground and shrugged "I have no clue" I said and hopped away to get to where it starts to slope then I easily glide on the freshly groomed trail I knew I wouldn't get to the powder until I either got to the trees or when we reached Vallhalla I stopped at the run that would lead back to the car and the quad lift again and hopped to turn around so I could see when Ace approached. He wasn't far behind me but he was slower than he used to be considering he hadn't done it in years and needed to get the hang of it again, but that didn't mean I couldn't tease him. 

"Hey Ace you getting slow with old age or did I pretend to be that bad for so many years without realizing it?" I teased "shut up I hate you so much we need to break up right now I can't handle the abuse any longer!" he exclaimed flopping on the snow dramatically "fine I hate you I can't believe I was ever friends with you! I think I'll go to my other boyfriend now that I don't have to pretend"  I said "who's the unlucky guy?" he said I smirked "Eric" I said his demeanor changed completely "nope I refuse you can't break up with me I am keeping you an you will never see Eric again" he said and hopped over to me pulling me to him Danny and Dillon laughed "you guys are the most entertaining couple I have ever witnessed how long have you been together?" Daniel asked I thought about it "it depends on how you look at it" I said "technically since the beginning of the school year but then again if you look at it a different way we've been together since we were twelve but took a three year break when Ace moved" I said they nodded "I'm counting the three year break one that it awesome oh and who's Eric?" Dillon said I smiled "Eric is a guy who was flirting with me when Ace was in the room and Ace now hates him" I said they smiled.

We boarded for hours stopping for lunch in the little huts and drank some hot cocoa in the process when closing time came later that night we went out to the car after exchanging numbers with Daniel and Dillon so we could set up another time to board. I put my normal shoes on and moved my ankle for the first time practically all day and sighed in relief we went down the mountain talking the whole time I was happy I decided to come with him it was a relief from all the stress that I have right now. 

Hey so nothing really productive with this chapter just Ace and Pix spending time with each other. I actually had a laptop to use instead of my tablet. Aldo I feel like they should have a ship name that people can torture them with comment some ideas if you want to. Have a great day!!
