Chapter 20 - Safe & Sound

*Beep* *beep* *beep* "will someone shut up that annoying beep?!" I said as I opened  my eyes and looked around to see a disheveled Ace, he looked underweight and just overall terrible. His skin almost a green color with large dark purple bags under his eyes, almost like he got in a fight and got two black eyes. Ace must have heard me and his eyes lit up "Pixie! You're awake!" Ace exclaimed tears of relief gathering in his eyes. I looked around the room in confusion, why was everyone looking so terribly? "How long have I been asleep?" I asked "Pix you've been out for a month. Whe- when I saw you in that alleyway I-" Ace choked off. "Pixie I- I can't handle even thinking about what I saw." He choked out.

That is when the memories flooded in. She looked at Ace again and realized why he looked the way he did. "OH MY GODS ACE, WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO YOURSELF!? WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU ATE? GO BRUSH YOUR HAIR! YOU LOOK LIKE YOU HAVEN'T SLEPT IN WEEKS! GO EAT, BRUSH YOUR HAIR, AND SLEEP RIGHT NOW OR I SWEAR I WILL, I WILL, I WILL... I WILL NOT TALK TO YOU AGAIN FOR A MONTH. NO! I WON'T ALLOW YOU NEAR ME FOR TWO MONTHS!" I screamed at him. All the boys in the room jumped up then looked at what had woken them "I told you so!" They all yelled at him. Ace sighed an hugged Pixie "and go shower, please" she demanded. The doctors entered the room moments after Ace left.

 Ace came back about 20 minutes later, his hair was wet, he had a hairbrush and a bag of food. I glared at him, he gave me some food from the bag and passed food to all the boys in the room before finally pulling out food for himself and he ate his food in silence "go sleep" I told him he glared at me "I'm not leaving" he said strongly I sighed in annoyance then moved over in the bed, it hurt but I didn't let it show. I patted the bed beside me "sleep" I said once again he looked reluctant "you're hurt" he said I rolled my eyes "and I wasn't before?" I questioned with a raised eyebrow "not like this" he said "Ace, now!" I demanded and he sighed before very carefully he got into the bed miraculously not touching me, he has officially done the impossible!  "Ace I'm not broken! Stop it!" I exclaimed at him and cuddled into him. He looked down at me exhausted "sleep Ace" I said softly and started humming softly and slowly he fell asleep.

"Thank gods! He hasn't slept for almost two weeks straight, minus when his mom drugged him to sleep. Which didn't last very long" Will said Pixie sighed "why can't he take care of himself?" I asked helplessly "because he was worried about you! Pixie he drove us all insane trying to find the guy who did this to you! When we found you, it- it wasn't pretty." he said as if he was trying to repress the memory. Why would they care so much about someone as useless as me?

"Who did this to you?" Elliot asked I bit my lip "nobody important, it's in the past I'm alive that is what matters" I said the boys all glared at me . They looked like they were about to say something but my father and Berlin entered the room he saw me awake and Ace in the bed and raised his eyebrow "how could you let him treat himself like this?!" I demanded as he rushed towards me "you think none of us tried? Imagine if it was Ace in this bed, imagine if Ace was you. You would look the same if not worse because nobody could get you away." my father said I sighed knowing he was right. Ace will always be the one good thing in my life, not that my father and Berlin wasn't a huge part of my life but Ace had the ability to take away my demons, he was my best friend.

I spoke with everyone while Ace slept until the nurse kicked everyone out except Ace who she looked at with pity "he has been by your side since the beginning, make sure he takes care of himself. When you woke up that was the first time he had left since the beginning, and when I asked him what made him change he said you had forced him. You found a god one, don't let him go" the nurse said and walked out before I could say thank you. I fell asleep soon after thank to the pain medication dripping into my veins.

I woke up when I felt a shift beneath me. I opened my eyes and looked into Ace's. "good morning" I said "morning thief" he said "who did that to you?" he asked, jumping straight to the point "nobody important I am safe that is all that matters, the man who did it to me is won't come after me again because he thinks I'm dead." I told him he glared at me. "Ace, let. it. go." I gritted out in a warning voice he was about to argue but he must have seen something in my eyes "this isn't over"  he said I sighed but let it go, until he bothered me about it again.

"So, how much longer will you be in here" he asked "a week at least, can you take notes for me?" I asked "I would if I was going to class." he said I was confused "you've been out for a month, it's break" he replied I was shocked then remembered that he was correct, I wouldn't have school for a couple months. "so, what do you think we're going to do?" I asked he just looked at me "you will be getting better" he said I sighed knowing he wouldn't say anymore.
