Chapter One

(Ashley's POV)

I ran from the house, I couldn't look at
them anymore. All they do is suffocate me in everything they think is wrong with my brother. Our parents fight all the time, when Johnny is home though, they fight together. My mom throwing awful and disgusting words, while my dad just goes straight to physical beating. Johnny bolted out of the house. I was almost in tears, but i've learned not to cry in front of them, it only makes it worse for Johnny. I got up from the table to go after him.

"He'll be fine, I don't want you going to that hooligan house too." My mother always says things that aren't needed.
"Okay, I'm going to my room, I u-uh have some homework I need to get done." I slowly creeped up the stairs and closed my bedroom door. I could feel warm tears rising in my eyes and my vision started to blur. I went back downstairs to ask my parents if I could go to Madison's. They have always loved her.

"Sure sweetie just be home before 10 please."
"Thanks mom!" I headed out the door. I wasn't going to Maddie's, not yet anyway. I leaped onto the street and walked across. I walked for maybe 2 minutes before reaching the Curtis house. I was there a lot so I just walk in now. Instantly, I saw Pony get excited. I could tell Pony had a crush on me, but I usually ignored it. I walked over to Johnny who was in the kitchen getting cleaned up by Darry.

"Hey Dar"
"Hey Kid"
I looked at Johnny, he had a huge bruise over his cheek that turned more purple by the second, he also had a bloody nose.

"Hey Johnny... how you feeling?"
"Well not great... but, i'm happy you came." He got up and gave me a close hug. I always felt bad for my brother. I guess i'd been so invested in our hug that I hadn't noticed that Dallas had came to see Johnny.

"Heya Johnny, I swear I'll beat those moth-"
"DON'T YOU FINISH THAT DALLAS!" Darry screamed. Dar has a big thing about no cussing. Dallas just laughed a little but let it go.
"It's okay Dal i'm used to it." Johnny reassured Dal.
Hearing your twin say that he is used to being beat isn't a great thing. I gave him another hug.

"Hey i'm heading to Madison's and i'm sure you're not going home, so i'll see you tomorrow." I walked out the door, I said bye to Pony. I looked for Sodapop but I couldn't find him. Soda has always been my best friend other than Madison.

"Bye everyone!" I walked my way towards Madison's and told her about Johnny.
I trusted Maddie with everything. We must've been talking for hours because it was 9:56.
"Oh shit! Maddie I gotta go!"
"Okay see you at school!"

I let myself out then ran to reach home in time. I was a fast runner, I do track with Ponyboy. I made it just in time, 10 on the dot.
"Hi hunny!"
"Hi mom! I'm exhausted so i'm heading right to bed." I ran upstairs before she told me to wait, I know she was going to ask if I had seen Johnny. But I didn't care.
