“Luke!” Dawn stepped back. “What? How did you find me? What are you doing here?”

“Didn’t you get my letter and the roses?”

“What? You sent the roses? It’s you… the dinner invitation?”

“Well yes, who did you think it was?”

“Never mind. It’s got nothing to do with you"

“What the hell are you doing here anyway?”

“I had hoped we could still be friends or at least part as friends. I mean we did have four wonderful years together and I never slept with Annie.”

“Calling out her name at our most intimate moment… to me was as good as sleeping with her. When you hit your climax it was her you were with not me!” Dawn’s voice screeched into a high tone at the end of her sentence.

She slammed the door in his face and stormed back into the room. She grabbed all the roses and ran back to the door and was pleased to see Luke was still standing there.

“Here take these and give them to Annie.” She threw them in his face. “And don’t ever come knocking at my door again.”

She was about to slam the door again and stopped. “I tore up your letter and threw it in the fireplace and watched it burn.” Dawn laughed hysterically as she slammed the door in Luke’s face again.

Luke stared at the closed door stunned and speechless. He was unable to comprehend what had just happened. He looked down at the roses lying at his feet and shook his head. “I guess that means we’ll never be friends again.” He turned round slowly and walked away.

The tension in Dawn’s body suddenly overwhelmed her and she sank to the floor laughing uncontrollably. Hysterical tears rolled down her cheeks and it took a few minutes for her to calm down.

On the kitchen table she found the cards that had been attached to the roses and put them all in the sink and set them alight. She watched them burn and when there was nothing left but ashes she opened the tap and watched as the ashes swirled down the plug hole.

“And that’s the end of that.” She said as she walked out the kitchen and went to call Andy.

Sitting on her bed she hit speed dial on her phone and Andy picked up on the first ring.

“Dawnie, do you want me to come over?” Andy asked the moment he picked up the phone.

“No, it’s okay, but can we meet for breakfast tomorrow or a coffee after work.”

“Sweetie what’s wrong?”

“I slammed the door in Luke’s face and threw his roses at him.” Dawn laughed. “I set fire to his cards.” She laughed again.

“Dawn, don’t move I’m coming over right now.”

Dawn didn’t respond and just hung up the phone and sat on the bed. She wanted to call James, but decided not to. She was in the weirdest mood and decided it was best if she was on her own.

It was after eleven that evening when Andy knocked on her door. She uncrossed her legs and climbed off the bed, where she had been sitting the last two hours with the phone still in her hand.

“Sweetie, are you okay?”

“Never better.” She burst out laughing. “Andy you should have seen his face when I slammed the door in his face and then opened it again to throw his roses at him. Of course I slammed it even harder the second time too.”

“Dawn, are you sure you’re okay? You seem a little hyper.”

“I’m just so glad he is out of my system and gone forever."
