"I WISH I WAS STRONG ENOUGH TO LIFT NOT ONE, BUT BOTH OF US"

All I see are white walls and a blacked out mirror in front of me, I can feel them watching me through it even though I can't see who.

If only this was my first rodeo.

"Sorry to keep you waiting" Erin walks in, "just wanted to thank you for coming in" she sits down opposite me, placing the files down on the table. This interrogation room does make me feel like a criminal.

I mean I might as well be with everything I am covering up.

"I just want to remind you that this is voluntary so you can leave at any time" she disclaims, "but you were a lawyer so I don't need to tell you that" she comments. "Are you okay to proceed?" She questions.

"Anything I can do to help" I keep up my innocent facade, "even though I don't really know what this is about" I lie. "We have reopened the arson case" she informs me, "arson case?" I question, "the Larson Grove fire" she specifies.

Cannot believe I am covering for Jesse now.

I thought I was done with this.

I have too many things to do.

"What about it?" I ask, "I already gave my statement" I remind her, "yeah and it was your statement that convinced the investigators of Jesse's innocence" she points out. "They asked me questions and I answered them to the best of my ability" that's not exactly I lie.

"What can you tell me about the fire?" She starts taking notes, "you went into the fire to save him?" She adds.

"Yeah, I heard him calling me from the second floor and I rushed in" I answer, "you rushed in without a mask and ignored direct orders?" She brings up. "I was with him for 8 years, I might not have liked him at the time but I cared for him" I answer.

"So, you guys got engaged again after?" She thinks I am not onto her.

"What has this got to do with anything?" I counter, "just trying to get a handle on his mental state" she answers. "Yeah, we reunited" I keep my answers short, "why did you not go through with the wedding?" She asks.

"Because I realised that I didn't love him anymore" she continues taking notes.

"How did he handle it?" She questions, "he wasn't pleased, he was upset" I reply, "but we talked it through and left it there" I shrug.

"Talked it through?" She picks up on it.

We both blackmailed each other into keeping shut.

"I told him that I don't love him and that I love someone else" I reply, "and there was nothing that could change it" I add. "Did he hurt you?" She is making it difficult to keep cool, "no" I shake my head, "he's arrogant most of the time but he's not violent" I stand by it.

"So he didn't threaten you?" She asks.

"No" I stand firm.

"Did you talk about the Larson Grove fire?" She questions, "not really" I answer, "he never told you what he was doing there?" She interrogates.

"He told me he was buying a house on Larson Grove and the fire was at an open house so I put two and two together" I explain, "he never did anything suspicious to make you think twice?" She pushes.

"No" I shake my head, "he was shaken by the near-death but that's it" I add.

"Okay," she writes something else down.

"After you left him at the alter, when did you next get into contact?" She asks, "when Cruz got into trouble" I answer. "You didn't speak to him at all in between?" She pries, "no" and that's the truth.
