"Hayoung, your phone is ringing." Yuta called out from the living room. Hayoung quickly ran out of the kitchen to where her phone was sitting in the tray at the front door. As she passed Yuta, she noticed that the male seemed irritated from the noise of the phone ringing.
Yuta was sitting on the couch, playing video games. Judging by the fact that he wore a headset, Hayoung could only assume that he was playing with his friends.
Hayoung quickly picked up the phone, without even checking the caller ID.
"Hello?" Hayoung said, answering the phone.
"Is this Hayoung? That response seemed way too nice to be my sister." Doyoung. She noticed Yuta glare at her from the corner of her eye so she made her way to her room.
"Don't get so excited, I didn't check the caller ID before answering. What do you want?" Hayoung harshly asked him.
"Hayoung, how many of your sick days have you taken?" Doyoung asked. That's a weird question.
"None, I'm not a slacker like you." Hayoung retorted. She took a seat on her bed.
"Geez, no need to attack me." Doyoung replied defensively. "Can you take a day off tomorrow then?"
"Why?" Hayoung asked.
"Jungwoo's mother's surgery got moved to tomorrow so I'm covering for him at the café since Mark has classes." Doyoung told her.
"So what does that have to do with me taking a day off?" Hayoung heard silence on the other line for a moment before Doyoung answered.
"I think you should go with Jungwoo to the hospital." Hayoung froze in her spot. Doyoung kept talking on the phone as Hayoung slowly absorbed his words.
"Pick him up tomorrow morning, I don't think it's that safe for him to drive since he'll be under a lot of stress. I would go if I could, but Jungwoo wants the café to stay opened and Mark can't skip classes. You're the only other person that I can think of." Doyoung told her. Hayoung sunk into her pillows, thinking for a moment before answering him.
"Okay, I'll go." Hayoung softly said.
...
Jungwoo was expecting to see Doyoung at the lobby of his building that morning but was met with another face instead.
Doyoung told him that he would drive Jungwoo to the hospital since he didn't want Jungwoo driving. Jungwoo was hesistant at first, but after half an hour of convincing, he gave in, only if Doyoung kept the café open for the day.
As Jungwoo approached the girl leaning on her car, her brown hair straightened, wearing black ripped jeans, white t-shirt, white sneakers, and a leather jacket, he realized that Doyoung had fooled him. Hayoung took her sunglasses off as he approached her.
"You're not Doyoung." Jungwoo said, eyeing her outfit.
"I sure hope I'm not." Hayoung replied, standing standing straight. She motioned to her car with her head. "Get in."
Jungwoo followed Hayoung's orders, taking the passenger seat of the car. He laced his hands in his lap, looking out the window as Hayoung drove.
"You seem nervous." Hayoung pointed out. Jungwoo slowly turned his head to look at the girl but she was focused on the road ahead.
"I don't know, surgeries always make me feel nervous." Jungwoo admitted. Jungwoo was surprised that Hayoung turned her head to meet his eyes for a brief moment before facing the road again.
"Don't worry, I'm sure it will go smoothly." Hayoung told him.
Jungwoo sank into the seat after hearing her words, his body calming down. Although she hadn't said much, the soothing sound of Hayoung's voice had somewhat relieved him, making him feel more comfortable as he sat there in her car as she drove them to the hospital.
