"Focus Katherine." My father barked at me as he pushed me across the open field. "I'm trying." I snapped at him. I was trying, but he was too quick. "Don't think. Do." He said charging for me. I closed my eyes and focused on gaining energy from the sun. I pushed my hand out and heard a groan. When I opened my eyes my dad was holding his chest while lying on the ground. "Dad are you okay?" I asked running towards him. "I'm fine baby girl. Go on to school." He said. He only called me baby girl when he was proud, but in pain like now. We had just moved here and he was very skeptical about the neighborhood is safe. I kissed his forehead and stood up. "Okay love you, Dad," I said and walked inside the outhouse. Our watchers as they call themselves always looked out for us when a new threat arrived. My dad was sort of like a supernatural police officer. He had gifts of his own, but he took a fancy to mine most. I was what people called a fairy. I take the light from the sun and use it as my own energy to protect myself from potential or real threats. I went up to my room and changed into clothes that I would wear for my first day of a new school. It had always been easy for me to make friends, but there were times where I chose the wrong friends to trust. I walked downstairs and grabbed my bookbag. I walked into the living room and saw my dad on the couch with an ice pack placed on were my light struck him. "Mom dads down," I said. My mom was like me in away. She was a fairy, but she was on a higher level than me. The higher you are in training the more power you are able to absorb. My mother can take from both the moon and the sun unlike me only with the sun. She came down the stairs with sleep written across her face. "Training again?" She asked.
"You know dad everyone is the enemy," I said. She smiled lightly and looked at her husband. "I tell this man a thousand times that you don't need training. Your perfect and if he pushes too hard he'll be the one getting hurt." She said. She was right though. I had been in training most of my life and it was only making it harder for my dad. Why was he pushing me to nearly ending his life? "Mom," I said about to ask her a question, but she dismissed me by holding her hand up. "Get to school or you'll be late Kat." She said. I nodded reluctant to leave and headed to my car
