Tears keep flowing, I cant stop them.

I want to stop them, but I just can't.

They're not because of what happened today, they're because of what happened when we were young.

We were inseparable.

I remember a flashback of Hayes and I.

"Thank you so much for this lovely dinner" My mom says, hugging Elizabeth with the leftovers in her hand.

"I wish you didn't have to go" Hayes whines to me.

"Me too" I say, not getting up from the couch.

I broke my ankle a couple days ago, and I was on crutches.

"Mommy, my ankle really hurts" I say, pouting.

"Well, the faster we get home, the faster the pain will go away" My mother says, in a hurry.

"We don't want to keep the Grier-" My mom says, before Elizabeth cuts her off.

"Don't worry, Jamie can spend the night here. No problem" she says, giving me a wink.

"Are you sure?" My mom says hesitantly.

"Miss Jamie has been Hayes's "bestie" since kindergarten. They're inseparable. Hayes will protect her. Right Hayes?" Elizabeth says, turning to Hayes.

"Yes" Hayes says, springing up from the couch.

My mother stifles a laugh.

She kisses me on the forehead and tells me to call her in the morning.

I nod and give a devilish smile to Hayes.

We set up a fort in the living room out of pillows and blankets.

I can't really move, but Hayes helps me with everything.

"You know, I really think your the most bestest friend ever" Hayes says, staring at me.

I laugh at his improper grammar and grab his hand.

"No one will get in between our friendship" Hayes says, resting his head on my chest.

"I- I" I stammer

"L-l-o-v" I say, but then stop myself.

I had started to fall for Hayes.

"What?" he says, sleepily.

"I said I love .... Um.... This fort we made" I whisper, catching myself.

"Oh. Me too" he says, yawning.

"Goodnight Jamie, tell me if you need anything for your ankle" Hayes says, pulling me closer to him.

- End of Flashback -

I hear a knock on the door

I get up and wipe away my tears.

I open the door to see Hayes.

"Hey" he says awkward.

I don't respond.

I look down at my slides.

"Are you okay?" He says, giving me a worried look.

"No, Hayes I'm not. I'm really not." I huff out of frustration.

Well what's the mat-"

Then Ashley rounds the corner.

Oh, whoopee
