Chapter 9
The weekend dragged on torturusely slowly. I felt a wee bit better on Sunday and Bloom called over with my favourite strawberry liquouriches. She stayed all day. Thank goodness Mum was away. I had no idea where but I never did. We talked and giggled all day. I couldnt beleive we got on so well.
"So will you be coming into school tomorrow?" Blue asked with her hands clasped together and her big blue eyes widening as if she was begging.
"Are you begging?" I laughed.
She swifly unclasped her hands and unwidened her eyes.
"Nooooo." She answered cheekily.
"But are you?"
"I hope so."
"I need to know."
"Why?"
"Just."
Urgghh! I am such an impatient person.
"Yea ok I will."
Blue grinned.
"Well I have to go then. See you tomorrow!"
I wondered what she was up to...
Monday. I lifted my head it was much lighter now. I slowly pulled the ugly green jumper over my head. I sprayed "sweet" perfume because I figured I would need to be as sweet as possible today.
Blue was waiting at the gate. Her eyes lit up when she saw me. She had a large box in her hands but it was covered with a bag so no one could see it. She placed the box on the ground and ran over and pulled me into a tight hug.
"How are you feeling?"
"Ok. Much better though." I replied.
"Ive got something to show you." She said in a sing-sing voice.
"Ooo what could it be?" I said like a small child.
"Come to the bench."
We took a seat on either side of a small red bench. Blue placed the box carefully on the bench and then slided it over to me. I looked at her and she egged me on to open it. When I tore off the bag excitedly and opened a small white box with a ribbon wrapped round I took a fit. I just burst out laughing hysterically. People were looking first, strangely at me and second, in admiration. It hurt my head to laugh but I just couldnt contain myself. People came over to admire the huge cake. I smiled assuredly at them as if allowing them to look.
"Is that Ellen?" Someone asked.
It was Ellen but on a cake kicking my shin and me falling on the ground. It was so life like.
"How?" I asked speechlessly.
"My mum. We really had fun making it. I took pictures and mum painted them on with icing ink." She explained though I noticed a sad look in her eyes as she said it. Her voice was strained.
Then she perked up.
"Wanna eat it?" She asked.
"Wait till I take a photo." I took out my phone and took a few snaps. Then the bell went.
"Put it in my locker. I dont have any books in there."
"Thank you sooo much its fabulous!"
Blue laughed at me saying fabulous again. I went into the school. The yellow drenched me. My head pounded now so I took a quick swig of water. I went over to Blue's locker and slowly placed the cake box inside. Then I noticed the door of her locker.
