Chapter 15

After dinner Jay offered me a lift home. I accepted I couldnt wait to get away from Mrs Douglas's staring, Mr Douglas's accusing and Mattys loving eyes. He really liked me. I like him too but I have to see Harry I have to look into his eyes. We drove in silence back to my house. When Jay pulled up I leaned over to push the door open but Jay touched my arm.

"Be careful all right? Dont mess with Mattys head hes a good guy."

"Look..."

"Yea I know, just think about it ok?"

I wondered what he meant. He pulled on my heart I didnt want to hurt Matty but I just didnt know what to do. I jumped out of the car silently and went to the door, it was open this time.

I heard a mans voice talking. Its sounded familiar. I walked into the living room and dropped my jaw. Mum and Mr Small were sitting snuggled up on the sofa. They turned to look at me but I turned and got out of there. Mr Small got up but I heard mum to tell him not to bother. Then I heard his voice raise into a teacher voice. I just ran to my room and pulled out my coldplay CD and stuck it into my stereo. I pumped up the volume so loud so I could hardly hear myself think. Thats what I wanted. I needed a mothers advise. My mother was no good. I decided I would walk over to Blue's. It was late but I needed to get out. I sneaked down the stairs and when I got outside I ran. I ran until I couldnt run anymore all the way to Caramel Square. It reminded me of Harry. I went over to Blue's door and knocked on the door. I was breathless. A woman who resembled Indigo opened the door though she was much frailer and her eyes had bags under them. She looked like she hadnt slept in weeks. Her hair was grey and so was her face. I tried to act like I didnt notice.

"Is Blue home?"

"Yup she is upstairs. You look like you need some advice." She smiled.

"Come in and get some hot chocolate." She called Blue and then led me into the kitchen. She reached up for the mugs and her face screwed up in pain.

"You alright?" I asked.

"Yes yes hun just take a seat there." She put milk into a saucepan and put it on the top of the stove. Blue arrived in the door way. She smiled.

"Your definitely on the team Bloom you played class today!" She beamed.

I gave her a hug.

"A lot had happened between then and now." I said with a sheepish smile. Indigo placed a mug in front of me and I thanked her.

"Want me to leave?" She asked.

"No I might need your advice if you dont mind."

Indigo shook her head and took a seat. She sort of eased herself onto it using the table. Blue got up to help her. I told them all about what happened earlier today. It felt like a week had past from this morning! I told them about Matty and Harry.

"Is it really true..about Harry?"

"Well I never heard it that way! Do you not think I would have warned you if I had known!"

"Do you think Matty would have made it up?" Indigo looked deep in thought.

"Did Willow not go out with Jeremy Fisher when she was anorexic?" Indigo butted in. How did she know that? Did Blue tell her mum everything?

"No...omigosh it was Jay! I remember now!" Blue recollected.

"So is Matty covering for his brother?" I asked.

"Maybe..but why didnt he tell me?" Blue said sadly. I told them what Jay had said about Willow being vulnerable and what he had warned me about earlier when he dropped me home. I wanted to tell them about my mum but I couldnt it shamed me too much. Id have to tell them about mu mum being the janitor. Blue asked me to stay the night and I gratefully accepted. I couldnt wait till tomorrow to find out the truth from Harry.

"Hey is Indigo all right?" I asked Blue. Tears filled her bright blue eyes. I was watching Indigo try not to cry with pain as she pulled herself up off the chair. Blue and I were sitting in the living room watching Indigo in the kitchen through the glass doors.

"Does she look bad?" Blue asked.

"Well I noticed she looks awfully tired."

"She cant sleep with the pain...she has cancer." Blue burst into tears. I put my arms around her and pulled her close.

"I had no idea." I whispered into her hair. She sobbed and told me about the treatment and about how she ha to watch her mother die slowly. She told me one day she found a huge clot of her hair on her pillow and how she found her in the toilet vomiting blood. I cried at the pain Blue was going through. She told me how great Matty had been through it all. She smiled when she talked about Matty. They had been friends forever. It was the sort of friendship I couldnt see ever going any further in fear of the loss of the great bond. I wiped Blue's eyes, she put her head on my lap and closed her eyes within minutes she was asleep.

I looked at myself in the mirror. Today was my surprise date. I applied my eyeliner and curled my hair. I grabbed my comfy jeans and Converse. I was going casual. Why would I make an effort. I heard the door bell and raced down the stairs. Harry stood there looking adorable in his jeans, converse and the schools football teams hoodie. I sighed with releif I had chose the right clothes. I tried to smile at him. He went in for a kiss on my lips but I turned my face and he planted one on my cheek. I looked at me hurt.

"Is everything all right?"

"Em..no I need to talk to you."

"This sounds like a break up line." Harry looked at me his face strained.

"NO! I just heard something.. Come in and I will tell you." He stepped in. He had a bag in his hand. I saw tissue paper stuffed inside. He handed it to me. I would wait and open it later.

"Tell me what happened when you were dating Willow."

He looked confused but he started,

"She was cheating on me with Jay Douglas." New story! So Blue had been right Jay was involved.

"How did you find out?"

"I found them making out" My heart stopped. I told him what Matty had told me.

"Covering up for his brother. Why would he do that? His brother is a complete douche and he knows that." I told him how he liked me and how he had kissed me. Harrys face went so sad I almost cried for him.

"You kissed Matty? Because of this story he made up! I was there for Willow when she was going through that time and Matty took all the credit. All because of his prick of a brother!" He said his voice raising.

"And you beleived him..over me? Says a lot!" He got up and walked out the door.

"Harry wait!" I shouted and ran after him.

"Look harms done, he didnt just kiss you, you obviously lead him on. I thought you were different." He slammed the door in my face. I fell to my knees and cried. What had I done?
