The Royals

After school, I'm rushing to the roof of the school to meet Elaine. Apparently our school doesn't have nearly enough healers, and therefore she wants me to meet the Royals. Her reasoning was that 'some of them get hurt way too often and I need help.' I guess that makes sense with Turf Wars and stuff.

Elaine meets me at the staircase and I take a deep breath. These guys are royals. Prepare for them to be scary. Good thing I have experience with Royals. Perks of being a healer.

She opens the door and I awkwardly stand next to her as she introduces me. "This is Alyysa. She's the new healer in my class that I told you guys about."

I scan the Royals. Another blond dude, of course, with sharp blue eyes to match. That's the King, Arlo. A purple haired girl; I like her already. ALSO blue eyes. We're practically matching. All my buddies with blue eyes.

Anyways, that's the queen. Seraphina. Then there's the Jack. Another girl; pretty pink hair and kind orange eyes. Remi. (I honestly have no idea who the Jack would be at this time. Can't decide if it's Cecile or Remi, but we're gonna say Remi)

Arlo calls my name and I freeze. "So is your ability healing?"

I shake my head, "No. My ability is light manipulation. I can use it for a lot of things, but healing is the main thing."

They nod. Remi smiles kindly at me and I feel a little less nervous. Seraphina's gaze just negates all of that though. Her words make me sink even farther behind Elaine. "What's your level?"

"4.5. I'm an elite-tier."

The Royals nod and Elaine nudges me with a grin, "Awwww, you're stronger than me. But we're both elite-tiers. What about your cake friend?"

Arlo raised an eyebrow, "Cake friend?"

Elaine turned to the king, "Yeah! Her friend at lunch made 8 chocolate cakes from one piece and some random ingredients!"

They all perked up at the words of chocolate cake. Chocolate cake is quite brilliant. Imma need that leftover chocolate cake from lunch. This is stressful.

"Chocolate cake? Awesome. I remember her from our class, but I don't know any details. Tell us Alyssa! What's her ability and level?" Remi cheered.

"Well. Alex's ability is Manipulation and her level is 5.6."

Remi suddenly blanched. I'm guessing Alex is stronger than her. Poor girl. Arlo, actually showing emotion, went to comfort Remi and immediately changed the subject. "Let's get to the point. Are you familiar with Turf Wars?"

"Yes. I was the healer for my middle school team," I replied, looking him in the eye. Oh god. I feel like I'm going to die from embarrassment. Why am I like this? I shouldn't be passively aggressively trying to pick a fight with the king.

Fortunately, said king didn't seem to mind and just nodded. "Good. Would you be willing to alternate with Elaine as the healer?"

"Sure."

"Great. You'll be going to a battle with us on Friday. There probably won't be anyone who can hurt us, but you'll be there just in case. You guys can go now. It was a pleasure to meet you."

I gaped at him as he turned around to face the other Royals. This FRIDAY? ExCUSE mE? WhAt? The year JUST started. Do we have THAT many enemies? This school is already killing me.

At least I have Elaine for the occasional break from mortal danger.

I groaned as we walked to the school dorms. "This FRIDAY? What is wrong with Arlo?"

Elaine gave me an empathetic pat on the back, "Don't worry. It'll be done fast."

I sighed, "Hopefully. Anyway, I gotta catch up to Alex and Kevin. See you later."

Elaine looked ahead of us where Alex and Kevin were talking animatedly. Alex was also laughing hysterically and struggling to keep from dropping the piece of chocolate cake that I very much wanted. "Kevin?"

"My other friend. He's weak. Came to our lunch table in the middle of lunch. Okay. Cya!" I yelled, running off before she could respond.

I caught up to Kevin and Alex and immediately interrupted their conversation like the nice person I am. You can't leave me out of conversations. Especially ones that cause you to laugh hysterically. You just can't.

Unfortunately, Kevin has other plans and runs off to the boy dorms. With us by ourselves, we decide to split too. I head to my dorm and she goes to hers.

BUT I DO A 180!

Almost forgot about that chocolate cake. That would've been a disaster.

I quickly find Alex's dorm (she told me which one was hers) and kick the door down. "Alex. Cake. Hand it over."

Then I see Remi, frozen in shock in the nearest beanbag. "Oh hey Remi! I didn't see you there."

"Oh. Right. You know her. And that cake was never yours. If I give it to Remi, Remi gets it. IT IS REMI'S." Alex smirked, having the GALL to outright refuse my cake order and bring the Jack into the situation.

"Then make another one," I stated simply, plopping myself down on the ground.

She waved me off with an excuse. "Oops, already used all of my energy making a fork for Remi's cake."

We've been friends for a while now. She's a fool if she thinks that'll work on me. "She's not using it anymore. You can rewind it so that it's back to a piece of metal and take the magic from it."

Alex glared at me and complained before finally doing the inevitable. That is, agreeing to my demands.
