As the rest of the class screamed, I hid my head in my hands to 1) muffle the screams, 2) hide my eyes, and 3) avoid throwing up.
All of which were accomplished.
The screams died out and I looked up. Alex, trying not to be disturbed, slid back into her seat. The blackened human heart is nowhere to be seen, but a rather large bump in her bag offers an explanation to its disappearance.
=Our teacher takes a few deep breaths before turning to a page in her binder. She looks up and grins at her worried students. "Okay, guys! Let's flip to page 275 of our math textbooks."
Half the class is still in shock, so they do nothing but continue to stare, opened mouth, at the teacher. The other half (including me) take out their textbooks to avoid being the next victim of the teacher's wrath.
Namely the next owner of a detached, blackened heart.
Except for the fact that there are only 274 pages in our book instead of 275. One brave soul has the guts to tell the teacher, but he is shut down within seconds. ("Shut the fRiEs up.")
Despite our obvious confusion, the teacher continues to teach from page 275 and on in her imaginary book that she seldom references in her speech about the correct ways of killing somebody.
I'm glad (albeit a little mortified) that I now know the correct way to sever someone's spine whilst picturing their heart at the same time. I guess we know how the blackened heart came into her possession.
All we need now is to figure out who died because of it. Then we can send her to the police. However, considering the fact she's a teacher at the privileged Wellston, she'll probably get off with a slap on the wrist. After all, EMBER is out there killing everyone anyways. What's a murdering teacher going to do? Murder people? Surely not.
She's just going to teach her students how to do that for her! An unlimited supply of fresh, whole human hearts, just for her. We can even use Hanako's kitchen knife to cut it out (good job if you got that one. Comment below the anime)!
Okay, well, Alex can. I'm not going to participate in any of this nonsense.
After the teacher's lecture on breaking spines and killing people in a single blow, she moved on to talking about the dangers of paper cuts. Thankfully, as soon as the discussion about the possibilities of killing people with paper cuts started, the bell rang and singled the start of our next break. Hopefully one without a large fight involving one high tier and one god tier.
As it turns out, there is no hope of having zero fights in between classes. Whether the fights are going on between low tiers, mid tiers, elite tiers, high tiers, god tiers, it doesn't really matter. Just expect there to be someone being thrown through the wall next to you at all times.
That's exactly what happened to me.
It was a very stupid fight between two kids. One of which I recognized from the very first day of school. Remember him? Yeah. The one that very dumbly referred to himself as our king before getting his butt beaten.
His name was Zeke. Don't worry if you don't remember, he isn't very important. Actually, he's quite the opposite. I wouldn't bat an eye if he disappeared.
Green eyes glowing, he went to punch a cowering kid again. I blocked him, knocked him out, and moved on with my life. He isn't worth any more of my precious time. I already brought him to the infirmary once, but that was because he was bruised and bloody. He doesn't get any extra attention if he's just passed out on the ground.
Sighing, I pulled out a snack from my backpack as the kid I saved ran up to me. "Thanks for saving, but...aren't you the girl from the school's paper?"
I raised an eyebrow, "Excuse me?"
"You know, the one about the fight between the King and a new girl! The article is going viral right now."
Sure enough, everywhere I looked, there were people whispering and staring. Not particularly at me, but at my best friend who just so happened to be running full speed ahead through the crowded hallway.
I held out my hand and the green hand promptly put his copy of the article in my hand. Speed walking, I scanned through the article. Sure enough, there were all the details, along with a few pictures of Alex and Arlo. Remi and I appeared in 1 picture at the very end with a short caption about us interrupting the fight and stopping all conflict. And obviously, the article was written by the one and only Isen. Oopsies for him.
He was going to die.
Which was, I mean, entirely his fault. How did he even get a paper out and done by the time class ended? He was literally in class. By the time we were released, the story was already spreading like wildfire. What an idiot.
Groaning, I handed the mid tier his paper and raced in the direction I saw Alex run. It wasn't long before I realized that she was headed towards the press room. I gave myself a slight power up in speed and continued on my way.
I reached the press room just as Alex walked out. A very anxious looking Remi and Isen quickly followed. She whispered something to Isen and I read her lips. Well, at least tried to. "Is...okay...leave...Arlo...there?"
I didn't see Isen reply.
Sneaky, sneaky; waiting until they leave...ey.
I stepped inside; the faint scent of alcohol still lingering in the air from whatever illegal things happened here. I wasn't in the room where it happened, so there's no way I would know the specifics. Though, I'm not sure I even want to know, for that matter.
Now, according to Remi and Isens' conversation, Arlo should be in here...somewhere (over the rainbow.) I searched under the tables because obviously Alex is just going to throw his body onto the floor and drag it wherever.
He is not there.
My eyes focus on the closet in the corner of the room and a lightbulb clicks in my head. As soon as I pull the door open, Arlo's blond head falls out and almost flattens me to the ground.
Almost.
His face hits the ground with the thump, but he doesn't wake up. What in the world did Alex feed him? Leaning down, I access the damage. Thankfully, there isn't anything wrong with him. Arlo's just unconscious.
Unfortunately, I have no way to move the giant on the ground as he is much taller and probably heavier than me. Oh well, I'll figure it out.
First things first, wake him up. Or at least try to. I should be able to numb the effects of whatever the heck Alex put in his system. The bell rings, but I opt out of class. I'm sure the teacher won't mind.
Sighing, I numb the last of the effects. It'll probably take a little longer before he wakes up, though. It's probably in my best interest to take him to the infirmary. I don't to be the first face he sees when he wakes up on the cold hard floor.
That would not be good.
Going back to the last problem, I still don't have a way to transport him out of the room. And I don't think it would be a good idea to drag him by his feet through the hallway. Imagine that, seeing your king being dragged, upside down, unceremoniously through the hallway.
I'd be even more dead than Alex. Especially seeing that I cannot fight Arlo as she can.
Suddenly, loud yelling interrupts my train of thought. Lo and behold, Blyke is slamming Isen through a wall. Like I said, beware of people flying through walls. It happens quite often.
"WHY TF WOULD YOU WRITE SOMETHING LIKE THIS! WE TOLD YOU NOT TO!" he raged, stomping up to a pissed off Isen. "hOW did you even mANAGE to write it that fast? It's litERALLY been 2 hOURS!"
I slammed the door to the room open as Isen stood up angrily. "I was wondering the same thing, Blyke. The same thing."
