The girls just kept walking. The cave seemed never-ending. All they saw around them were miles and miles of rocks. The rough and dirty walls surrounding them just kept going. It almost seemed as if they were going in circles. Seeing the same sights over and over. Like a merry-go-round. Just continuous circles. They were desperately hoping for the ride to end.
They walked and walked. After another 3 days or so, they saw a small patch of light. It seemed so far off but it filled the girls with hope. They ran to the end, as fast as they could. They stepped out into the sun and winced at the intensity of it. They had been in that cold, dark cave for so long, they forgot what the outside world looked like. They were happy but the feeling of dread and fear and sadness filled their bodies even more. They couldn't speak. They couldn't celebrate. They couldn't rejoice. Or jump up and down. Or laugh. Or smile. Not when their friend was inching closer and closer to her meeting with death.
In the light, Cam looked even paler. She was breathing but the breaths she took were shallow and jagged. She had not even a hint of emotion on her face. Her face was blank and slightly peaceful. She didn't know what was happening. She didn't know that she was dying or that they even made it out of there. They were where they were because of her. The girls couldn't help but feel guilty. She was so close to death and she didn't know it.
Cam let out a very rough and forced breath. Her face was no longer peaceful. It contorted in pain and sweat was building up on her forehead. She let out a groan and didn't even try to open her eyes.
"Lily?" She breathed.
"Yes, Cam?" Lily's voice had a lot of panic in it.
"Did we make it out? Is Ollie alive?"
"Yes. We made it. Ollie's alive and carrying you right now. We have to get you to a hospital though. Just hang on for us." Lily pleaded with her.
"Don't worry. I got it." Cam smiled slightly and kept her eyes closed. Once again, emotion flooded out from her face and her body went limp.
"We have to call someone."
"Do you know her parents' numbers?" Ollie never took her eyes off her unconscious friend.
"I might." Lily pulled out her phone and scrolled through her contacts, not bothering to look at the other notifications. "I have her mom's number."
"Perfect. Call her."
Lily tapped on the contact and soon a faint ringing was heard from her phone.
"Hello?" The woman on the other line sounded confused and very worried.
"Hi, Mrs. McCray. We need you to meet us by the Walgreens near the edge of town. We don't have time to explain." Lily said franticly into the phone. The girls started walking to their desired location.
"Ok. I'll be there in 5 minutes." The call ended and the girls hurried to the small store. They waited for about 30 seconds before a navy blue Lexus pulled into the parking lot.
"We can't talk. We need to get her to the hospital." Lily propped Cam onto one of the seats in the back of the car and strapped her in. She sat next to her and kept a hand on her shoulder. Ollie climbed into the passenger's seat and buckled her seat belt.
The car ride to the hospital was silent. No one talked. No one wanted to. They all sat and just looked at the road ahead of them. Cam's breathing was still uneven and shallow. she was limp and pale against the seat. Lily had tears building up in her eyes but she pushed them back for the sake of her friend.
They rushed through the doors of the hospital and stopped in front of the desk at the entrance.
"Hi. How can I help you?" The man at the desk asked.
"My daughter needs help right now." Mrs. McCray said franticly.
"Ok. We have a room open on the second floor. Get her in a wheelchair and take her to room 32. A doctor will be there shortly."
"Thank you so much." The three rushed through the lobby and to an elevator on the other side. They kept glancing at Cam, still unconscious. They got to the second floor and Lily rushed ahead to find room 32.
"Found it!" She called down the hall. The other two quickly caught up and they rushed into the room. There were already two doctors there ready. They picked her up and laid her on the bed. They hooked her up to a breathing machine and cleaned her wounds as the others just watched. They finished in about 10 minutes, considering the size of the damage. After they finished, they turned to the group.
"So what happened." One of them asked. Ollie glanced at Lily subtly and saw her look at one of the doctors right in the eye.
"We were hiking on one of the mountain things by the edge of town and she fell. Her arm hit a really big and sharp rock and that happened." She motioned to Cam on the bed.
"Ok, thank you. I think you should all leave for today and get cleaned up. You can come to visit her again tomorrow. We're going to have to run some tests on her."
"Ok. Thank you so much" Mrs. McCray walked the two girls out of the room and back to her car. "So what really happened girls?" She asked them when they got into the car.
"Well, Cam kinda killed Mr. Yates right after he shot something at her arm. I don't really think she intended to kill him. Just fend him off until we could do something. She distracted me so I wouldn't get hurt and then that happened. We wouldn't be here without her. She killed an ogre and basically killed the dragon also."
"Oh, God. What happened in that cave?" Ollie's eyes were wide with questions. Lily filled them in as much as she could before the neared her the McCrays house.
"Ollie do you want to stay here?" Mrs. McCray asked her
"It's ok. I'll just go back to my house. I don't have to worry about anyone anymore anyway."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I'm fine."
"Ok. Lily, do you just want me to drop you off at your house as well?"
"Yes please."
"Ok." The car ride to the girls' houses was quiet. A comfortable silence washed over them and no one felt the need to talk. The girls went home to their respective families and explained everything. Well, one girl did. Ollie went back to an empty house. No one there except her. She didn't feel sad in the slightest. She was without her horrible dad that didn't like her. She was free to do whatever. She fell asleep in her bed that night, the only fear was for Cam.

The first thing the girls did the next day was go to the hospital. They checked in and made their way to Cam's room. There, they saw Cam, propped up and awake.
"Why hello dearest friends of mine," Cam said in her normal, carefree voice.
"How's your arm?" Lily asked straight away.
"Other than the giant chunk taken out of it, fine. The skins still pretty raw but its all cleaned up."
"Good. It just kept bleeding in that damn cave."
"Yeah, I heard. Nice cover-up story by the way."
"Thanks."
The girls kept talking for hours until a nurse came in.
"She will be able to leave in 2 days." The nurse said in a monotone voice.
"Thank you," Lily said politely.
The girls were happy where they were. No giant monster or men who wanted to kill them. Just them, in their small little world.
