Tony was called up to the main office on Tuesday, but he didn't know what for. Honestly, it could be anything, from his hacking into the security system to the pot he smuggled into school. It was probably the pot. Shit. He knew he shouldn't have smoked it when his roommate was around, but he had been so stressed lately and Bucky didn't seem like the type of guy to mind, and he had even taken the joint that Tony offered. A month ago, Tony didn't really care if he got kicked out or not, but now all the good things about home where here, and some of the kids here seemed pretty cool. He also didn't want to face his father's wrath. Fuck. He really needed to stop making himself anxious.

"Mr. Stark." Fury said when Tony opened the door.

"Fury." Tony said, walking into the room and immediately cursing under his breath. Rogers was here, too.

"Did you get in trouble, Mr. America?" Tony asked mockingly.

"I brought you two here for the same purpose." Fury said.

"So you think we did something together? Because I can tell you-"

Fury cut him off.

"Neither of you are in trouble. Yet. Stark, did you do anything I should know about?"

"No." Tony answered quickly. Fury looked ready to move on, but Steve shot him a suspicious look.

"So why are we here, Sir?" Steve asked Fury.

"You had a shield during your time with Project Rebirth, correct?" Fury asked Steve.

"Yes, Sir. It was for training purposes, though. It's not meant for a real battle."

Tony rolled his eyes. He wondered if this guy could actually fight anyone, or if he was too soft for that.

"Do you still have the shield with you?" Fury asked.

"Yes, Sir. I always carry it with me in case of an emergency."

Tony was about to roll his eyes a second time, but Blondie actually had a point. He started scheming in his head for ways to make the suit-up time on his suit faster, or maybe carry around a smaller gauntlet.

"Can we see the shield?"

Steve nodded and pulled out the shield from his backpack, and it was much smaller than Tony expected. It was shaped roughly like a coat of arms and had a very...patriotic look to it. Tony decided that his own suit looked way cooler.

"Stark, I need you to construct a new shield for Rogers." Fury said, taking Tony by surprise.

"What? Why? Can't he use a different weapon?" Tony protested.

"Mr. Stark, Rogers has shown exemplary skills in hand-to-hand combat, and the prototype shield he had greatly increased his performance."

"But why me? Can't you have someone else design it?"

"You are a weapons designer, yes?"

"I've been trying to break away from the weapons label, Fury." Tony shot back.

"Well whatever you call it, you're the best person this school has at making weapons, and you're going to make a new shield for Rogers! There's a room off to the side of my office, you guys can use that for the design process."

"Fury-"

"Good luck to you both." Fury said with finality and turned his attention to some paperwork on his desk.

Steve tugged on Tony's arm, realizing that once Fury made his mind up, he wasn't going to budge.

Tony slapped his arm away. He could walk to the room himself, goddammit.
