Ch. 11

Steve was hanging out on Natasha when there was an announcement calling him to the main office.

"Oh god, what did I do now?" Steve asked Natasha.

"I don't know, just go. You'll be fine."

"Wish me luck." He said.

"Go. Stop stalling." She commanded with a smile.

Steve walked up to Fury's office, nervous about the reason for the visit. It wasn't that Steve didn't like the principal, but Fury tended to be very intimidating.

"Sir?" Steve asked as he knocked on the door.

"Rogers." Fury greeted. "Please, take a seat."

"What did you need me here for, Sir?" He asked.

"I'm trying to put together a team." Fury said.

"A team? Like a soccer team, or-"

"A team of individuals to be our next line of defense. Most of the students that graduate from here go on to work for SHIELD, but we've noticed that our agents sometimes aren't enough. That's why I've created this initiative."

"With all due respect, Sir, I don't really know why this concerns me." Steve said.

"This school has been in session for a month, and I've been observing to see which students would be the best for the initiative. I've selected six to start with, including you as their leader."

"Wow. Thank you, this is such an honor."

"I also need you to recruit the other five students, convince them to join this team. You have your training and lunch classes together, so finding them shouldn't be a problem." Fury informed.

"Okay. Who are the other five kids?"

Fury showed Steve five different photos.

"Thor, Bruce, Clint, Natasha..." Steve murmured to himself. "You've gotta be kidding me."

"I need all the students." Fury said.

"Stark's more likely to listen to you than to me." Steve begged.

"All. The students. Good luck." Fury said.

"Hey Thor, Loki." Steve said the next day during science.

"Hello, Captain." Thor greeted.

Loki was busy staring at his phone.

"Loki. Stop stalking Jane on Instagram and say hi." Thor said.

Loki waved.

"Hi." He said dryly and went back to looking at his phone.

"Um, Thor." Steve started, nervous about recruiting people. "Fury wanted to put together...a team. And he wanted you to be a part of it."

"What would being on this team include?" Thor asked.

"All I know is we're supposed to be 'the next line of defense', as Fury put it. Some sort of initiative. I guess like a group of the Earth's mightiest heroes?"

"Of course, I will join this team! The very reason we came to Earth was to help protect your people from hostile forces." Thor said with a smile.

"Great." Steve said.

The next class was training, which had all six members of Fury's proposed team.

"Bruce." Steve called before the class started.
