13: The Reason

Nini POV

I went into first period and sat down in my seat...next to Ricky. I didn't make eye contact with him and he didn't even try to look at me. Gina came in after Ricky and sat next to him. That isn't even her seat.

Her and Ricky were talking and laughing. All of a sudden he leaned in and kissed her. I don't get it, why would he kiss his ex? I felt so upset, but I should've seen it coming. I hurt him and he has the right to move on.

I couldn't stop thinking about them the entire day. Every class I had with Ricky, Gina was in too. They always sat next to each other and they were making out during lunch. I couldn't take it anymore so I left and went to the music room.

I heard someone following me but I ignored it. I started singing a song that I wrote when I was interrupted. By Gina.

"Hey Nini. Can we talk?"

"Yeah sure. What about?"

"I know you've seen me and Ricky, hanging out, lately."

"That's an understatement. I've seen you do more than just hang out."

"I know. But you need to know something. He doesn't like me."

"I'm pretty sure he moved on from me."

"No, he didn't. He came to me the day you told him to let you go."

Flashback

Ricky POV

I'm on my way to Gina's. I'm walking because I don't trust myself to drive when I'm in this state. I left my car at the school because after I talked to Nini, I didn't want to go back for it.

I walked up to Gina's house and knocked on her door. Her mom answered.

"Hey Ricky! What's up?"

"Is Gina here? I really need to talk to her."

"Of course, she's in her room. Go on up."

"Thank you Ms. Porter." I went up to her room and walked in. She was on her bed watching Tik Toks on her phone.

"Hey Ricky, what's up?"

"I'm gonna get straight to the point, I need you to pretend to date me."

"Wait wha-"

"Let me finish. It's obvious Nini doesn't like me. So I need to get my mind off of her. And you're the only one I trust." I started to tear up. She noticed and came up to hug me.

"Okay, I'll do it. But if you don't get over her in two weeks, we are stopping okay?"

"Yeah. Thank you so much Gina."

"Of course. Anything to get my best friend back."

End of Flashback

"I didn't know he would kiss me. I swear. He just said we would be hanging out more than normal. I promise. He told me to make-out with him during lunch."

"Don't worry, it's fine. But if he kissed you, he must have moved on. And I'm okay with that."

"No, he couldn't of moved on that fast. Trust me, when he asked me to do this, he was begging. He wasn't over you, he couldn't of that fast. I mean, look at you."

'I'm not even special. I don't get why he liked me. I'm ugly, fat, too short, and a terrible singer. He has no reason to like me."

"Nini, don't say that about yourself. You are so beautiful, not even close to fat, an amazing singer, and you're height is perfect because then you can choose like any guy. You are an amazing person Nini, never tell yourself different."

"What if I don't believe it?"

"Then you are crazy, you are the most amazing person I have ever met. I am really glad you moved here. I can finally talk to a girl and not guys about my problems. They always try to hurt someone."

"That's true, guys do that."

"Speaking of hurting people, I have to hurt Ricky."

"Why?"

"Because he hurt you."

"No, it wasn't him. He did nothing wrong."

"So why did you push him away."

"I had to. I didn't have a choice."

"What do you mean?"

"You really want to know?" She nodded. "Okay here it goes..."
