I awoke the next morning to gentle kisses on my shoulder. "Are you awake, my love?" My eyes fluttered open slowly and I yawned. "I am now." I noticed Dimitri sitting on the side of the bed, already dressed. He leaned over me and kissed me slowly. Just as he pulled back there was a knock on the door. Panic coursed through my veins and Dimitri placed a finger over my lips. I dove under the covers and tried to be as quite as possible. "What is it Sylvain?" I could hear Sylvain breathing rapidly, almost as if he had ran to get here. "The Professor needs us. There has been students spotted in the old chapel. And Demonic Beasts." I heard a gasp fall from Dimitri's lips. "Very well. I'll be right there Sylvain." I heard nothing else but the door close. "Thalia." Dimitri whispered. I rose from the covers "It's fine. Go. They need you." He smiled softly before walking out the door.
I got up off of his bed and immediately noticed the settling soreness in between my legs. I picked my clothes up off of the floor and got dressed. I sat in his room for a while before I glanced into the hallway and noticed it was empty. Or so I thought. I stepped out only to be grabbed from behind. I turned to meet soft purple eyes. "Edelgard! How are you?" Her face held its stern look very well. She placed her hand on my shoulder and whispered in my ear. "It would be wise of you to not get too attached to Dimitri. After all, everyone dies eventually." She removed her hand from my shoulder and walked away. I stood there in complete and total shock. 'Why would she say something like that? Does she plan to hurt Dimitri?' "Thalia is everything okay? Why are you outside Dimitri's room?" I turned slowly to face my green eyed friend. He walked over to me and placed his hand on my shoulder. "Thalia, what's wrong? You look pale." I shook it off and smiled. "Nothing. Just tired is all. Let's go eat. I'm starving." He gave me a questioning look but shook it off as we walked down to the dinning hall.
We sat at a table with Leonie and Hilda. I had a funny feeling I was going to get pounded with questions but I didn't expect them this soon. "So Thalia. I saw you and Dimitri sneak off last night. Where did you go?" Claude looked at me surprised and heat flooded to my face. "Yeah, Thal. Where did you go?" I laughed softly and attempted to stutter out a reply, only to be cut off. "Thalia? We need you. Dimitri's been injured." It felt as if my heart had stopped. I looked from Sylvain to my friends and got up walking out of the dinning hall. "What happened Sylvain?" My voice had a bit of edge to it which I immediately regretted. "There were Demonic Beasts at the old chapel. Four of them at least. We were ambushed." I nodded in understanding as we climbed the steps to the infirmary. We walked in and I was astonished. There were students lying unconscious in the cots.
I looked to Sylvain, confused. "The Demonic Beasts were students." Terror flooded through my body as I took in the sight around me. A curtain flew open and out walked Dimitri naked from the waist up. "Sylvain, do you care to help me with...Thalia? I told you not to bug her about this." I took him in for a moment, noticing the claw marks across his left shoulder. "She was going to find out anyway Dimitri. Might as well be now." I walked over to a medical tray and grabbed some salve, some cotton balls, and some cloth. "Thalia, really I'm fine." I walked over to him and placed my hand on his good shoulder. "Sit, please." He complied and sat on the bed behind him. I placed some salve onto the cotton ball and hovered it above his shoulder. "I'm sorry if this hurts Dimitri." He nodded in understanding and I began to dab the salve all over his shoulder. A hiss fell from his lips but he didn't move. It killed me to know he was in pain. "Do you need any help Thalia?" I nodded my head. "Yeah. You can go ahead and start unrolling this cloth for me and grab a couple of pins off of that try."
I continued to apply the salve on Dimitri's shoulder. Sylvain laid the pins down next to him and began to unroll the cloth. I grabbed a couple cloth pads and laid them over the gashes. Sylvain fed me one end of the roll and I began to wrap it around Dimitri's shoulder. "You're pretty good at this Thalia." I laughed softly, recalling why I had learned first aide to begin with. "Well, Claude and I had a bad tendency to injure ourselves on a constant basis. Especially Claude. He had a bad habit of falling out of trees. So this was kind of a must have skill." Dimitri chuckled, bringing a smile to my face. I grabbed the pins and fastened them in place. "There. All done. I'll change your dressing again tonight just to make sure it won't set up infection. Thank you for your help Sylvain." He nodded and then I noticed a sad look in both of their eyes. "What happened out there?" They hesitated before Dimitri spoke, his voice cracking. "Captain Jeralt... he was... murdered." The very wind was took from my lungs as he spoke. Jeralt was widely known here in Fodlan. And he was Professor Byleth's father. My heart broke for the young teacher. I sat down on the bed next to Dimitri and took his hand in mine.
"Well I'm gonna go guys. If you need any help with him later let me know Thalia." I nodded and Sylvain walked away. As soon as he was gone Dimitri pulled me up from the bed. "Dimitri. Where are you taking me?" He didn't say a word, just continued to silently pull me along. His grip on my hand was firm but it wasn't painful. As we entered the dormitory I knew then where he was taking me. We walked up the stairs and down the hall to his room. He let go of my hand and opened the door. I walked inside the room that I had just been in a few hours prior. Once he closed the door he turned to me and pulled me into his arms. "I'm just glad your okay Dimitri. Whenever Sylvain come to me I was scared to death something awful had happened. I need to tell you something." I pulled myself from his arms and sat on his bed. He sat next to me. "What is it Thalia?"
"When you left this morning I stayed here for a bit. But when I went to leave Edelgard was standing there. Almost like she knew I was here. She told me that it would be wise of me to not get too close to you." He looked at me with confusion and something that looked like pain in his eyes. "I don't understand. Why would she say that?" I shrugged my shoulders and he pulled me into his side. "I don't know Dimitri. But with everything going on. I'm scared." He sighed and kissed the side of my head. "I know my love. I am too. Why don't you go talk to Claude. Get your mind off things for a bit. I'm going to go check on the professor." I nodded and gave him a quick kiss on the lips. "Thank you Dimitri. I love you." He looked at me fondly before replying. "I love you too." I walked out of his room and down the hall. The more I thought about it, the more I couldn't shake it. Something terrible was about to happen.
