BENNY

I WOKE UP lightly drenched in sweat, It was hot, especially in my room. The ceiling fan was on the highest setting yet it was nowhere near beating the heat right now. Despite it being only 8 in the morning, The sun was more than just out.

It was like, Out-out. I don't know how to explain it. It's hot. Very hot. That's all I know. I walk out of my room, hoping it was cooler in the hallways, but it still felt the same.

I took a peek into Lexi's room since her door was open, She was sitting on her bed watching TV, She glanced over and saw me.

"Morning Benji." She greeted as she waved. I returned the gesture and pulled my head out. I walk into Jason's room and groaned as the cool air hit me.

For some reason, Jason's room was always the coolest in the house. He was still sleeping but I needed a break from all this heat.

After sitting there in complete silence for a few minutes, I got ready to go to the sandlot, Though I don't think the guys will be up for playing against this type of weather. Last summer, they nearly passed out due to the warmth, I wasn't planning on letting that happen again this time around.

Everyone was already there sitting in the dugout, each of them chugging down a bottle of pop, Some were already on their second bottle, and by some, I mean Ham. Kae was right there with them and she handed me a bottle from the cooler.

Small little beads of sweat formed on her forehead, Her glasses were off, She mentioned she uses contacts once in a while, but she doesn't like using them.

To her, She thinks she looks dumb without her glasses on, but to me, I found it quite cute, despite them being only brown, Her eyes seemed to sparkle more, especially when it's against some sunlight.

"Benny, I'm gonna die from this heat. There's no way I'm playing ball out here." Smalls complained. For once, Everyone agreed with him. As everyone was rambling about how hot it was, Kae was just sitting down, taking small sips from her drink.

Her eyes followed everyone who was talking, she let out small laughs here and there after someone would crack a joke.

"Kae don't you think it's hot?" Kenny asked. Kae glanced at him and pressed her lips together, Her lips parted as If she was about to say something, yet nothing came out.

She simply nodded and allowed a grin to curve among her. She lightly patted her head and deeply exhaled.

"Benny, can we go to the pool?" Bertram asked.

His question perked up another conversation, This time, they're all begging to go to the pool now. They all looked at me as if they were beggars asking for food, They know that I'd play baseball no matter if it's raining or even snowing.

But I wasn't about to risk them all fainting again. I sighed and looked down a bit, "Alright guys. Everyone go home to change." I announced.

They all cheered and ran out of the dugout. They all left, leaving their bottles of pop behind. Kae stayed in the dugout and started picking them up.

She hasn't said a word since and at this point I began getting worried. "Do you wanna come?" I asked her, She lined up all of the empty glass bottles against the railing and wiped the sweat off her head. She glanced up at me and fluttered her lashes a bit.

"The pool? With you guys? Um, I'll think about it." She hesitantly said. She grinned and brushed her hair back, She chuckled but it was laced with a nervous tone. I raised an eyebrow at her and we walked out together.
