It was 20 minutes into the first day, and Izuku Midoriya was already absolutely miserable. Mr.Mothman had told the class to do a quirk test and the last place would be expelled. Typically something like this wasn't an issue, Izuku had worked his quirk to hell and back, but unfortunately for him, the track was made of fucking gravel. It was only 3 exercises in and Izuku was doing way above average for not using his quirk, but was extremely behind against others who had strong quirks. Even Touya had been able to use his quirk here and there!
The first test (after Bakugou's obnoxious ball throw) had been a flexibility test. That was fine actually, he was very flexible and had taken sixth because he could practically fold himself in half. The second had been a grip strength test and he was in the bottom group for that. The teacher had warned that breaking the sensors without pushing it together would only count as a zero. So, Touya was able to max it out by melting the hinges enough to squeeze it together, but Izuku couldn't just dismantle it without failing. The next test was a race, which had been just as bad. Usually, when he raced with Touya he would rapidly dismantle and reshape the ground so he could essentially slide on concrete, but again, it was gravel. So he settled for collecting as much gravel together as possible, putting it together and pushing off of it to give himself a slight speed boost over Touya.
And now he was here. Throwing a ball, quirkless, while Mothman glared at him.
"Sensei. Is there a reason you're glaring at me? I'm not sure what I've done wrong?" Izukuasked him nervously.
"I'm going to be frank Midoriya. I don't understand why you're in the hero course." Mothman glared.
"Oh fuck." Was the only noise made. Touya had said it and then stepped back to hide behind the closest student. He saw what happened to the last guy who told Izuku he couldn't be a hero, the three-headed All Might hydra was enough of a warning.
"I'm sorry, what?" Izuku blinked in confusion. What was he supposed to say? He was being blatantly insulted.
"During the entrance exam all you did was blow up robots an let the pieces fall haphazardly. You had no tact and strategy. Now you're half-assing this entire test and not even bothering with your quirk because you can't blow it up. All I see is another stuck-up kid with a powerful quirk who decided to be a hero for fun and didn't both to train that quirk. As far as I'm concerned you have zero potential." The man stated, his frown prevalent.
Now, Izuku was no stranger to discrimination. No, he grew up around. He was told to kill himself because he was too weak, but never had he seen this before. Never before had he been discriminated against because his quirk was strong. No matter how hard he worked he couldn't escape it, could he?
"Pardon me, but what?" Izuku took a deep breath, "My quirk doesn't blow things up for starters, it dismantle things. I needed to get the most dismantled at the fastest rate possible, to sit there and meticulously re-shape everything would have made me fail. If you wanted to yell at someone for blowing things up, I would yell at Bakugou. And if you had actually watched, when I took down the Zero pointer, I blew it apart, put it together, and had completely rearranged the wiring. There was nothing haphazard about that," Izuku had to calm himself real quick, he was just a moment away from blatantly glaring at the man.
So, instead of cursing the man out and causing bodily harm to his teacher, he turned back to his ball throw. He put his hands into the gravel and spent the next 5 minutes carefully intertwining and connected every bit of gravel until it formed a solid surface he could use. He threw the ball and made the path make a wave motion as to make the ball rapidly whip into the air.
Izuku's face was now a mess due to the blood pouring out of his nose and the dizzy feeling in his head. That is what some scientists call overusing your quirk, which is exactly what Izuku was trying to avoid. It was as worth it though, he got 1410.4m. Exactly twice Bakugou's score. Plus, he got to bitch out his teacher. Oh, the satisfaction.
"Aizawa-sensei. I don't exactly see what gave you the impression that I wasn't trying, but my quirk works on an item I can touch, the ground here is all gravel. It takes extreme quirk overuse to manipulate gravel the way I just did. I was trying but I didn't want to collapse after one exercise. You would know this if you had looked at my file. I got my quirk 10 months ago and trained it to perfection, I can manipulate things down to the freaking cell and turned it into a freaking healing quirk! I've spent my whole life being told I could never be a hero because I didn't have a quirk. People used to leave flowers on my desk telling me to give up and die. I didn't even get a quirk until someone I looked up to told me I couldn't be a hero. Frankly speaking, I have no plans of being looked down on and talked to like that ever again, teacher or not, I'd appreciate it if you avoid treating my efforts as if they were nothing." The frown on Izuku's face was prevalent to everyone there. To most students, it seemed like he was truly on the verge of tears and made most members of the class ignore his harsh words and pity him, but to Aizawa and Touya (and All Might hiding in the corner) the look held nothing but an intent to murder.
"I see. I apologize, I judged you unfairly. That's on me for not paying attention." Aizawa acquiesced, he was going to have to keep a close eye on this kid.
"Thanks, I guess," Izuku shrugged and walked over to Touya who was still slightly on edge (not for his own safety but for the teacher, Izuku could dismantle people. He is not to be trifled with.)
"You good? We can go get ice cream after school, or we can make an Eraserhead hydra-doll. Whichever gets you off this murder high the fastest." Touya offered, patting Izuku on the head.
"I say ice cream, Tokio. Hydra-dolls are only for those who force activate a quirk," Izuku laughed softly and leaned on to Touya's shoulder. Touya just continued to pet him.
"Fantastic. I've been craving pistachio ice cream,".
"You disgust me."
