A while later, I heard the slamming of a door and the stomping of footsteps past my door. A few minutes later, I heard softer footsteps walk by. I didn't think much of it since I didn't hear voices. An hour later, there was the sound of footsteps running and a banging on my door.
"Niall! Wake up!" I heard Louis shout.
I scrambled to my feet and opened the door. "Wha--"
"We've got to get downstairs. Liam just called saying that Esta and Zayn were outside by the pool arguing. He said something didn't feel right to him."
Without a second thought, I ran out the door. Harry had already gotten to the elevator and was waiting on it. "What the fuck is his problem?" I said, running my hands through my hair.
"I don't know but I could hear them arguing when Liam called. It did not sound pretty," Harry said, exasperated with everything that had been going on.
"Jesus Christ," I said.
After an eternity, the elevator finally arrived, and we all got on it. But it seemed the trip down was taking just as long as the trip up - forever.
"Come on," I said, my irritation with everything beginning to surface. "I swear to god."
No one said anything as the elevator stopped and we ran off in the direction of the pool. We could hear yelling the closer we got. Liam was standing there, watching, his arms crossed.
"What's going on?" I asked, as we got to him.
"He's been yelling at her for the last fifteen minutes."
"About what?"
"Her having joined us tonight."
"For real?" Louis said, in a rather high-pitched voice.
"For real."
The door was cracked open so that we could hear everything that was being said.
"You should've stayed with me. I needed you!"
"You were being a dick, Zayn! Why would I want to stick around for that?"
"Because you're MY girlfriend. You're here to see me. Not them."
"What, now I can't be friends with them?"
"I didn't say that. I said you were here to see me. You wouldn't even be here if it weren't for me."
"I know that. But we had just had an argument and you were acting like my presence wasn't wanted. So, I went down and spent time with people who wanted me around."
"Yeah, they want you around, alright."
"Yeah, they do. They're my friends."
"Friends, yeah right. No guy can be friends with a girl, especially one that looks like you."
"What the fuck is that supposed to mean?"
"Don't play dumb with me."
"For Christ's sake, Zayn, you think they all want to fuck me?"
"Probably."
She threw her hands into the air and turned around so her back was to him. "You're being absolutely ridiculous!"
"Am I?"
"Yes! You are! I came out here to see you, first and foremost, but they are my friends. In fact, if it weren't for my friendship with Niall, we wouldn't have met."
Zayn's body appeared to relax a bit after she said that and he seemed to calm down for a second, as his shoulders slumped a little. He took a few steps towards her and placed his hands on her arms before bringing her in for a hug. She kept her arms by her side. If anything was said, we couldn't hear it. But, clearly, something was said, because eventually her arms reached around him and we could tell they had started to kiss.
"Ugh, I can't watch anymore of this shit show," Liam said. "He's lost his fucking mind and he's taking it out on her. This isn't the end of this." He turned and walked off.
One by one, we each turned and left the scene. I was the last to go. I felt it my duty to make sure their argument was really over. At least, for the night. Eventually, they both started to move towards the door, so I backed away out of sight and watched as they made their way to the elevator and back up to their room.
I went back to my room and laid down. I drifted off to sleep, not knowing that tonight's little show was only just the preview.
